Kmart slogan is Lower Prices For Life, but sadly my local Kmart has a huge 'stock reduction' problem. This is a 5 day study of what's moving out of store but this time I visit the store in the quiet times of day. It reveals a disturbing repeated trend of the same activity in the same areas over and over on a daily basis. Of course Hot Wheels car packs are a very popular pick, but so is Pokemon Cards, Cosmetics, Clothing, Electronics, Smartphone Accessories, Pet supplies, Collectable Toys, Stationary and basically just about anything in store.

This time around I point out what I feel are the weaknesses in store design and some really simple things that could be done to add tamper proofing to all ANCO stock lines. I'm starting to understand the times that the stock in store is being manipulated. I certainly understand the places in store as it's been the same spots over and over for almost a year now. When I find stolen or manipulated stock I take it to the back of store so staff can set it up as 'mark down' specials. But even doing this does not stop the nasty thieves from picking off more stock. The weakness of the 'wire spider' system can be seen in this video.

I do look at the Pokemon stock on day one and again on day five. It's amazing what I see. I show how Pokemon stock is displayed in a neighbouring Kmart. The ANKO brand is a in house Kmart brand that means 'A New Kind Of' which was set up from 2008. Kmart is a fantastic place to shop, amazing prices always but it makes me really sad to see how just a few people cheat the system. There is new AI technology creeping into retail that can assist in shoplifting problems and understand customers identity but privacy advocates are strongly against this technology.

In 2013, Kmart began a roll-out of new store layouts. Garden plant sections were removed, and back of store areas were cut back. There was an expansion of floorspace to stock and an increase in the height of displays. The stores were given a more 'Department Store' feel with front of shop checkouts replaced with an area for non-self serve customers to pay at in the centre of the store. This new layout is I believe a huge factor in the problem I see going on.

  • Hey Leo! It’s just the same in my local Kmarts one is 24 hours open and gets hammered while the other one isn’t as bad. And it also happens around the bikes areas where I live. It’s just ridiculous
  • @ndingo
And people wonder why things are so expensive these days
  • Leo! Kmart should hire you as a loss prevention officer or investigative theft officer! Thank you 🙏 for bringing awareness of this kind of activity in your videos!
  • @BaronBacon
Is this the same dude who who showed redback spiders laying eggs in high res?
  • You can tell the class of people shopping at Kmart by the garbage they leave around. Well, Leo I think this store should pay you for all the work you did cleaning up.👍🏻👏🏼good job can’t wait to see your next video.❤️👵🏻🇺🇸
  • Leo why don’t you just print “warning! 24/7 surveillance” on a price of paper and leave that somewhere in the areas prone to this behaviour.
  • @Joker-yd7de

I work at a kmart and this is all too normal for me, you always find stolen items. I've seen tons of empty packaging for disposable cameras, toys, cables, you name it. Those metallic painted helmets never have the strips on the top. For us all collectables are kept at the back so they can't be stolen.
  • Man if they did eat those chicken bits a day later that's a good way to get botulism. But I forgot vultures usually have a natural immunity to such things.

I love your stock reduction study videos! All KMart stores have closed up here; possibly the end result of long term stock reductions? ✔️ I haven’t been shopping in person much, but the last I remember a lot of those items are sold here with the display item in a locked box & if one desires to purchase the item they take a card matching the item to the checkout. KMart seems to be good at giving things away 😐
  • Here in the U.S the common things I see stolen in store is printer ink , cosmetics and trading cards (Pokémon).
  • Can i asi you Leo if you are going to do aj AEG pushalong or trackmaster Edward or Henry review? Btw, great video
  • @aarongittoes
Hey Leo I’ll explain that light they were trying to remove the items and stuff the box full of stolen goods and pay for the box at the self service and walk out with a box of stolen goods but pay for the original item which is just a empty box.
  • @fokker2344
How is all of the mess hunter stuff lately? It’s been awhile since the last video, and I’m curious if all of that activity is still prevalent/ going on
  • @WORRO
