Not all dogs are small, fluffy and adorable. Some are huge beasts! And while some are huge but nice, like Clifford the Big Red Dog. Some are big, but fearsome. Some could even rival a wolf in a brawl. Yes, really. These are dog breeds that can defeat wolves!

The most intimidating dog I've ever seen was a Chijujia who lived in my neighborhood. No one owned him. He just ran around going here and there. He was missing an eye and had scars all over from being in fights. He had a big lump on the top of his head that might have been a tumor. We all called him the Colonel. One night really late, I heard garbage cans rolling around and a bunch of racket in my neighbor's yard and yipping. The Colonel beat the shit out of both of his labs and he had to rush them to the vet. He used to squat in the middle of the road and dare someone to run him over. Didn't give a fuck. I haven't seen him for a year or so. I assume he's dead. But what a badass.
  • Left out the Labradoodle. They'd just make the wolf play with them until the wolf dropped from exhaustion.

You forgot one of the greatest guardians of all, the fearless Great Pyrenees. I never go into the back country without mine. I am glad you featured Bruce Wayne, my favorite Cane Corso.

It's a very courageous and somehow heroic dog ... In a fight 1-1 with an bear , he know it can die , but never give up , so , in that way he give to the owner time to prepare for confront the wild beast... #9! I have one and they make awesome family dogs. He is 180 lbs of big loveable beast. I would not want to be on the receiving end of his bite. I have been on the receiving end of his head-butting (playing around) and his tail whip and I can attest it hurts. Also, when he has stepped on my bare feet, that is also incredibly painful. He is such an awesome dog for sure!

As many people have commented already, wolves are wild animals. They live to survive and that means they are born with a survival instinct. If one of these dogs on this list was in protective mode, they will do some damage one on one; however, wolves are not solitary creatures and chances are, if there is one wolf, there are others close by.
  • Rhodesian ridgeback protected tribes in Africa from threat of lions and other predators
