“Not good enough, too sensitive and also really too slow”. That was Max Verstappen’s damning indictment of the upgraded 2024 Red Bull, during a Hungarian Grand Prix weekend in which he failed to feature in the fight for victory and became embroiled in furious radio exchanges with his own Formula 1 team.

Such a crushing defeat never goes down well with someone as ultra-competitive as Verstappen of course, but this happened on an F1 weekend he declared especially important because of the introduction of Red Bull’s biggest upgrade of the season.

Verstappen’s frustration has been growing for months, starting long before Oscar Piastri led home McLaren team-mate Lando Norris to take his first grand prix victory.

  • This was officially the most TOXIC race of the season so far 😂😂
  • @sar4806
Newey took all the Red Bull’s power when he announced his departure.

The radio communications today were the best part of the race. I was in stitches waiting for the next dose of comedy gold to appear.

"Yuki could never get the second RedBull seat, he's too hot-headed!" Meanwhile, their number one driver:

I loved how petty the drivers were over the radio. I especially enjoyed hearing McLaren begging Norris to give the position to Oscar after THEY messed up the strategy and screwed Oscar over to begin the whole fiasco

Three words for Max’s comment after the T1 incident “ so it’s ok to force another car of the track now” - Pot, Kettle, Black.
  • Its amazing that things are going down hill since Adrian Newey announced he's leaving Red Bull
  • @roncharls8162
Who knew we’d be at this point given how dominant Red Bull seemed to be in Bahrain.
  • @mk33km
The biggest wake up call came from GPL on the radio to Max when he called him childish

I know everyone says Adrian Newy didn't have a lot of input over the last year or so. But isn't it telling that once he annouces he's leaving the team and they fase him out of meetings and such the performance of the car starts to take a decline 🤔
  • @Addyboy0190
The irony of Max complaining about moving under braking and dive bombing, what a season we're having And it seems the Newey touch has departed from Red Bull, "not just Newey" they said "it's a team" they said

You know what's funny.... Checo has been saying the exact same things all year.
  • Today was fantastically entertaining…but max drove the whole race like a pissed off teenager and the result was inevitable. He was moaning and swearing despite at times being the fastest man on track…so what’s he really complaining about? Trouble with max is he’s learned from his dad that absolutely any form of failure is unacceptable and that’s why you see him run others off the road but woe betide the man who does that to him and why we see him crumble as soon as it’s not all going handsomely his way.
  • @racecarrik
Verstappen sounded almost as whiny as his fans on social media 😂
  • @alexgeorge444
Max should maybe ask his dad to piss off, ruined a good thing for him. Well done Jos!!
  • @PassiveSmoking
And he's starting to have Mad Max moments again. I thought he'd grown past that.
