Spent the past week playing the Throne & Liberty open beta. There are things I like about the game, but overall, unfortunately, I don't think it's very good. Let's talk about Throne & Liberty.

Ultimately I'm happy to hear so many people enjoyed Throne & Liberty. As covered in the video, there's plenty of things I think the game does very well and I expect it'll have an audience, whatever the size. Bottom line for me is that I didn't enjoy the combat, no matter the settings I tweaked (Skill buffer, snap casting, etc). And if after 30 hours I'm still not digging combat, it's clear the game's not clicking for me. I hope everyone has a blast at launch, nothing beats the first week of a new MMO coming out. As mentioned at the end, I think everyone should give the game a shot seeing as it's free. But unless those combat updates dramatically overhaul the fundamentals of combat (and not just add AoE, reduce cast time, change elemental attacks, etc), I suspect I won't play more than a few days. We'll see though. GLHF.

For me the problem with modern mmos is that you have to spend too much time in menus clicking things to get pointless rewards to promote their cash shops instead of actually having fun in the game
  • Asmongold gonna watch the entirety of this video and reupload it on yt im 100% sure of it

I actually really enjoyed my time in the game. I got to like level 40 and had fun the whole time. Looking forward to the combat changes. Not sure about the longevity of the game though.

Guild is must have, even "Raid bosses are linked to your guild and the progress of the guild". There are the open world bosses, which are PVP or PVE, and there are Guild only bosses, which can be done on a weekly basis.

Fully agree on the performance. I can't believe my eyes that game and MMORPG on top of that made in Unreal 4 runs so well and is buttery smooth even in cities. No shader stuttering at all. Now if only Epic could manage to hire those devs and learn from them

it feels like a classic mmo but with modern graphics, that's good

I am in love with this game and can’t wait for the global launch in September!
  • @Reflexion89
Honestly shocked. I loved the shit out of this game.

PSA: unfortunately you need to mess around in the settings to make the combat feel much better, big one being turning on Skill Buffer. Hopefully they make these settings default.

I enjoyed it. The combat grows on you after a bit

I’ve played mmo for years with far less responsive skill use and way worse combat then throne and liberty. A lot of us have as well. The optimization, graphics, dungeons, item and skill tailoring are top notch in this game. This was by only beta ever where I had literally zero issues. Oh and I almost forgot open world pvp, siege, and guild pvp/pve content. The combat will get better with time and patches. I had a total blast playing with the guild I joined and doing pvp.

I enjoyed this game a ton, super excited. To people watching this, make your own opinion

The beta was extremely impressive from my perspective. Feels like a better version of Guildwars 2 with elements of FF14 and DAOC. Its been interesting to see so many KOLs rolling out videos wildly discordant with my experience. The GW2 launch received similarly mixed sentiment.
