Blackberries lose their sheen, and pull really easy off the vine when they are ripe, if you tug leave it for tomorrow. They grow wild on my land and I grateful.

Yes ma’am! We love those with vanilla ice cream on top…. My Mama would say, “Larpin”!!!!
  • Ohhh my. I'm adding blackberries to my Walmart pick up list. My diet is done in, this week. I have to make some of this. My Oh, my, my, my...❤

This is my summer childhood, PA born and raised…
  • I make BlackBerry pie and jelly every year. Our blackberries are busting at the seams. My fondest memories are of putting turpentine around our pants legs and short cuffs to keep the red bugs off of us and spending the day filling buckets with blackberries. My ex mother in law taught me to make the best BlackBerry jelly ever. God bless

This brings back a lot of memories of eating at my granny's house
  • My Pawpaw called kerosene "coal oil". He treated cuts and burns with coal oil. My momma told me that when lice was going through the school, her momma (My Mawmaw) put coal oil in her hair, braided it tight, and told her not to sit too close to the stove. My momma would have been 90 in September. But she never got lice. Now...I want blackberry cobbler.

My favorite part of the year is when you can walk down the roads of old abandoned homeplaces picking the fruits and berries taken wild, we just got done canning our first harvest of blackberry jam, its a beautiful time of year
  • Western Kentucky here with Appalachian Roots. I second the "Cornstarch to thicken" method. It tends to work best and I also use a little fresh squeezed Lemon Juice to offset the "starchy" texture, helps take the tartness out of the berries, and adds a little acidity to the mix. It doesn't take much. Roughly 2 Tablespoons of freshly squeezed lemon juice.

One of my very favorite desserts. We have lots of wild blackberries around these parts, but several years ago I began planting the thornless varieties at home. I have about a dozen plants. They are easy to grow, very productive, and makes the picking so much easier, plus no chiggers!!!
  • Cobbler looks good, mother made cobbler with out the seed,,strained black berry through cloth squeezing all juices through cloth just pulp left,,canned black berry juice ,so we had cobbler in winter times,,,really enjoying watching your family on YouTube,,thanks

Holy smokes that looks good, when I was a kid there was quite a few blackberry patches around but sadly they are all gone now. When we were 18 or 19 tears old we made blackberry wine with sugar, yeast .water . lemons and oranges. It always had fruit flies in it but that was ok because they don't drink much. Luv you Tipper and yours.

I loved this! I'm not in Appalachia (I wish!), but here in northern NY, I have fond memories of my grandmother always making my grandfather pull over to pick wild blackberries every time they happened to drive by a patch. We have berry bushes planted on her grave now.
  • My Dad would talk about this all the time, we had some family in Tennessee but been in Illinois for a long time. Glad to see the recipe.

Try tapioca to thicken your blackberries my wife always used it and gives her extra good taste

I spent many hours picking blackberries as a child. Loved eating them right off the bush. We also looked forward to blackberry jam, cobblers, pies and sugared down and served over vanilla ice cream. My mom told us when she was young, they would tie rags soaked in kerosene tied around their ankles when they picked blackberries. Your cobbler looks delicious and brought back memories. Tfs Hope you and your family have a lovely and blessed week. 💟
