In today's episode of Retro Renew, I look at a brand new IPS kit. But not one for a Nintendo handheld. Instead, we’re going to be looking at an IPS kit for the Sony PlayStation Portable. The PSP already has a fantastic display, but it was plagued with minor issues. Most notable are ghosting (slow refresh rate) and dead pixels. What I want to find out is whether or not the IPS panel resolves some of these issues. So sit back, relax, and let’s see what this kit is all about!

  • nearly 17-year-old handheld still getting aftermarket support - wow, talk about love!

The PSP was basically my only multimedia device until I got an iPod Touch. I remember the days when I use to stand outside for hours just using the neighbor's Wifi.
  • @DoubleU555
I hope this will be just the beginning of mods for PSP. This console was so ahead of the time and it needs more love in retro community, given that is runs all major emulators smoothly and has great resolution for retro games.
  • @WadeVillines
I would love to see this console get the Gameboy treatment. Shell mods, bigger battery, USB-C, etc. ESPECIALLY an aluminum shell. An aluminum PSP with the UMD drive removed in favor of a large battery would be epic.
  • Loco Roco was my jam, time to revisit that bright, beautiful world again!

I've had a PSP since launch in 2005, I've always loved it, upgraded to a 2001 when they came arround for external display option. Later got a PSPgo just for the heck of it. My 1001 is still my favorite as the thickness of the system made for a more comfortable grip. I wish the Vita had been taken more seriously. :(
  • @edwin99901
I would still buy a psp today. I feel like the psp will never get old.
  • @Th3OmegaPoint
I have a launch day PSP 1000 which is in mint condition so I will be keeping it stock - but I have to respect that people are making mods for it, and I love how nicely it drops in.

Mods for PSP (And PSP Go) in this channel would be amazing! I would love to watch you on the quest for the perfect PSO Go Mod (MicroSD instead of M2 Card, bigger battery etc..). Great job as Always!
  • @k.k9206
That's awesome. I saw a few videos for this mod but I can only feel comfortable modding something if Macho Nacho has a video on it. I appreciate how easy it is to follow your process.
  • Unbelievable bro, I just installed my 64GB SD on my old but in perfect shape PSP 1001 and then a friend of mine sent me this video yesterday as well. My OG screen is fine but is great to know that I have options for the future. Btw that SD gave so much new life to my PSP because my old memory stick pro duo was causing data transfer bottlenecking in some games to a point where I was like "if this new memory doesn't fix the issue I'm getting another PSP", thankfully it worked for me this time.
  • @ReavenZero
The production quality on your videos are stunning! Especially your intros, I'd love to know how you can pan around the consoles like that. Anyway, always a joy to tune in :3
  • @shadowtheimpure
This kit is a great option for rehabbing damaged PSP consoles.
  • @marcianoacuerda
We’ve been spoiled by previous ips replacements. Because they have always been huge improvements. But it doesn’t have to be like that. This is more akin to taking your car to the mechanic. You’re are not expecting to get a better car, just the same car but back in working condition. To me, if you have 40 bucks and no attachment to the console, better get a working 3000
  • @addiesworld1855
This guy gives me good vibes from This Does Not Compute. Been loving your vidoes keep up the good work!
  • @KyleBrinkerhoff
man, the psp was a homebrew / emulation champ at the time, i remember specifically picking one up for this, think i only ever had one game for it, the rest was just playing roms, good times
  • @SuperNicktendo
Pretty cool to see these enhancements. Hopefully we'll see something more substantial as time goes on.
  • @SlapNuts4Life
Man I love the PSP, my favorite game for it was easily Persona 3 Portable
