In this video, I am going over the Benjamin Moore colors of the year! I go through all of the colors in the palette and give you some ideas on which pairings combine well. I also give you my thoughts overall on the direction of color trends for 2024 and how they relate to past color trends. 🙌

90% of the time these “ colours of the year” really don’t take off too quickly. I work in cabinetry, you really get to see which colours designers are loving and working with IRL. It’s more like “ colours of the decade” VS “of the year”

As always, Nick delivers. I have learned so much from his videos in my home design journey. Who else adores this amazing man?
  • @Q-.-Q
To me, color drenching looks like the "Landlord Special", where the owner just indiscriminately paints over everything in sight with one bucket, from ceiling to baseboards... light switches and outlets included! 😅
  • @anniel1672
I "color drenched" my hallway about 20 years ago because it was a small hallway with lots of doors. I thought painting all those frames a contrasting color would make it seem busy, and also, I hate white ceilings. Who knew I was ahead of the trend? Certainly not me! 😂
  • There is a funny scene in the 1948 movie Mr Blandings Builds His Dreamhouse, where Myrna Loy is giving specific examples for each shade of paint for the interior rooms (Robins EggBlue, Butter Yellow, etc.). She leaves, the contractor turns to the painter and says, “You got that? Red, yellow, blue, and green.”
  • This is always my favourite video of the year and the fact that the "sad beige children" had a cameo made it even better!!
  • @SusannahPerri
Hi Nick, I just wanted to say that I subscribe to about 15 interior designers, but your channel is by far my favorite. I love your taste in design, your great suggestions, how concise your videos are, but most of all I just enjoy your naturalness, acerbic humor and your heart. 😊❤️
  • I actually love the teacup rose paired with antique pewter. I love all these colors. That dusty, muted quality is soft and cozy.
  • @SadafAhmad7
Antique pewter is gorgeous.. I’m with you, okay to be stuck in 2021 for this. Great video Nick
  • When I saw the colour of the year I was so disappointed. I am not a fan of blue (green lover!) and I really don’t like Blue Nova, so I dismissed the entire palette. But seeing you break it down, and introduce the colours on their own, completely changed my opinion. I love the pink tones, the deep oranges and the green. Thank you for another great video, and for helping me understand the thinking behind the way the palette was conceived!

I just refreshed all my rooms, after 22 years of living with what I did when we moved in, for $$$, and I watch HGtV and a very few good channels like this. I do not do trendy-trends. Nevertheless, I have decided that home fashions are a huge contributor to trashing the planet, as well as getting us to part with our money. Love that Nick said at the top, if you like your colors, keep them. But the ripping out of floors, one example, to put in gray (a few years ago) and now putting in light floors, after before the gray, dark floors. Well, hardwood floors used to be more of a mid-range color, and were “in fashion” in color and width, for decades. I am now boycotting hgtv.

On purple, my husband picked a really pale purple for our bedroom (called Globe Thistle) and a brighter warmer purple for his office (called Lavish Lavender) and they are magnificent. Purple is such an inspiring, magical color (in the right shades), and it's perked up these spaces so nicely. Would absolutely recommend. Purple doesn't have to mean jewel toned or little girl cotton candy.
  • The idea of Nick having "a few words" anything makes me laugh 😂 Edit: On another note this is my favorite video from Nick. I love learning about the sciencey side of colour
  • I love purple, so I'm glad Hazy Lilac made the list, and the purple/green combo is up there in my book too, so I appreciate you called it out!
  • @maddysal09
As someone who painted my bedroom white dove with a cinnamon accent wall a couple of months ago, I am fully on board with this updated color palette!
  • Loved your analysis in this one. Helpful. On the advice of the Southern Living design editor, I selected Ben Moore's "Ivory White" as the perfect warm white in every light. He was right! I "drenched" my whole house in it before I knew drenching was a thing. Thanks for your insight. You are very enjoyable.

I painted my kitchen/living room walls “ripe olive” (darkish green) from Sherman Williams back in 2019. Ahead of my time 😊 I still love it
  • I don't know why purple is considered a hard colour to work with in interior design. I love purple - more specifically purple leaning mauve colours. I find them calming and one of my favorite colours to use and a good compliment with grey! We are actually redoing our bedroom and using Mauve Blush by Benjamin Moore for the walls
  • @VioletFem
This year‘s palette also seems to complement last year‘s palette pretty well. You can pick any one of the bolder colors from the 2022 Benjamin Moore palette and combine it with the more muted colors of this year’s palette.
  • If you’re a designer, it doesn’t matter what you like/dislike, it’s up to your client. Of course, you can guide them… I really liked how he talked about Topaz + White Dove working with wood flooring/furnishings. Taking flooring into consideration is HUGE. Also, doing a video on what color of flooring is best for your room, lighting, etc., would be a great video, so many choices these days! I’m new to the channel, will look back to see if he’s already done that.
