Hortensia was written as the failed school rebel. She keeps trying to rebel and being quashed by Trunchbull. She is finally in the right place at the right time for the revolt at the end because I think that's all she ever really wanted but couldn't get one started on her own. With Matilda in the lead, she's a happy commander of troops, though.

When he said Salamander, I immediately heard Matilda in my head saying "It's a newt."
-
I think the character with the red beret is supposed to be Hortensia (the older girl that Matilda meets on her first day).
-
Hortensia's dancing is so freaking on point it is crazy.
-
This song had 200 kids working on it. Incredible what they did. The girl you were talking about is Hortensia, the older girl in Matilda's group on the 1996 movie. By the way, did you know the songs were all written by Tim Minchin?
-
School song and Bruce are definitely worth reacting to. Based of this reaction you would really enjoy them :)
-
The School Song is another big number worth reacting to. I think a lot of the songs are even better with the context of the non-singing parts of the show. Miracle is the first number and it works fine as a standalone, but I think Matilda's verse at the end of it generally gets left out when it's clipped because it's after the huge dance number, and I'd argue hers is the most important part of it since it's our first introduction to the main character.

Hortensia is the red barrette girl, I think she's supposed to be kinda this hardened student who keeps pulling pranks on the Trunchbull. (I think in the book she's the one who pulls a prank that Nigel almost gets blamed for!) I saw a behind the scenes snippet about the choreo. They had 200 kids for Revolting children and 75 for Bruce I believe. But they were all amazing. If you want another fun choreo number definitely check out The Hammer!
-
In a behind the scenes video for Matilda, it was said there were 200 students in Revolting Children 75 in Bruce (chocolate cake)
-
School Song is probably the most brilliant song Ive heard, lyrically. I highly recommend it and then Bruce. The entire movie is just fantastic.
-
Quiet is the most moving song, for me. I’ve read that Tim Minchin has gotten tons of feedback from autistic adolescents and adults, and families of autistic kids, thanking him for putting these feelings into words.
-
i watched the entire movie thinking Hortensia (red beret girl) was the main. shame she only gets a minute or two. and her hallway dance is as iconic as Wednesdays dance. in my books, phenomenal!
-
I recommend the songs: Bruce and the School Song. Definitely my favorites of my movie
-
Netflix did a really good job with this adaptation, you should totally react to the whole thing! And I concur with the other commenters - School Song is a great one to react to.
-
The school song is so good with it's smart lyrics and the visual aspect is super good so I think that should be next
-
This really hit me harder than I was expecting. So much talent on the screen overall.
-
Man, these songs, the kids KILLED them!!
-
200 children for this song.
-
Hortensia (Red Beret) is played by Meesha Garbett, an accomplished dancer (obviously).
-
The energy is so high and the choreography is perfect and I love this. Was so pumped up after watching this.
