When Iron Lung's anniversary came up a few weeks ago, I decided to jump back in to the game again. But this time around, I didn't want to just show off the map. Instead, I wanted to create the ultimate exploration mod for anyone to play themselves. Here's what happened.

Now it would be cool if you got the terminals to slowly break down over the playthrough until you have to take pictures to see.

This Mod feels like it could be the SM-8. The submarine that was meant to come back, better equipped and actually designed for the job.

Sure it breaks the original purpose but...this game took over the WORLD in your own words, more than a year ago. Everyone who got something out of it...well, got something out of it already. It is now time for the artist's drive to FUCK AROUND to kick in.

lmao yeah the Iron Lung main scene is an absolute mess. I didn't think I'd need to mess with it again. But I don't have a good excuse for the computer object name. I knew by that point that people were diving into the game files and I still did that lol

This is so neat. I love how much you've been able to play around with this game.

If you wanna reason this mod into the lore, you could say this is the scientist’s sub instead of the prisoner’s sub

I think best win is Dave admiring mod himself. I loved his reaction to it on Twitter, couldn't be better advertisement for a mod than game's creator talking about it in a positive way.

Wish other creator's put this level of efffort into the content they put out

I think the 5 monitor idea would work nicely if over time, the screens started to die so the last markers require blind navigating still.
  • I've said it before, and I'll say it again. David struck gold with Iron Lung. I think he could make a fully fleshed out game with its premise, one with a massive map and procedural generation, a wider variety of anomalies, encounters, and dangers with lore behind them, more things to have to do around the sub in case of damage sustained as a way to encourage players to be much more cautious as to not lose precious oxygen, and an actual purpose for depth. The end goal would be to get as many pictures taken as you can and survive the expedition, with lore being the cherry on top.
  • I know that you want to make the tech talk light for non-programmers, but every time it's mentioned; I silently say to myself. Dang...

I kinda wish there was an alternate version of this mod that just "keeps the sub window open", showing a projection of the outside through that little porthole.

8:28 Lmao as someone who does a lot of Unity stuff I immediately guessed it was gonna be called something like "Cube (x)" or something along those lines.

I hope this video blows up. Super sick mod. It’ll give a lot of people a reason to do another playthrough
  • This is great potential for a prequel where you play as a team of scientists who explore the blood ocean first with better submarine.
  • @afraanimation
Funny, now there's a movie both staring and directed by Markiplier

For The jumpscare have the back camera Blue screen when the Eye jump scares you. To preserve realism like the intro.
  • Very cool. I think adding a few things such as making the fish properly appear behind the sub, or just starting it further back so you can see it approaching on the screen, would've been a very in-spirit change to the game for this mod, but it works as you did it too. Unfortunately, the game just wasn't meant to be like this so parts like the many scares with the fish being 'close to you' on the sensors and so forth lose their edge when there's literally nothing there.. though it could always just be in your blind spots, I suppose. Quite interesting, and the mod is a simple yet great addition to the game and certainly nice for finding all those little unmarked ruins.
