Electra Dyne vs Deluxe Reverb

Published 2015-03-08
I wanted to see how these two amps compared. So, I thought I'd video it and share it with you folks. The DRRi has been modded to have the reverb on the Normal channel. The Electra Dyne is stock.

I know this is a very old video at this point but I just wanted to say I really like your setup I really like the sound of the Mesa and I really like your pedal board I was curious as you if you still have the same pedals and if you could tell me what you were using

I have both amps too. Got a screaming deal on the Mesa. $600. Couldn't pass it up. They are totally different amps. The Mesa is much more versatile and has some very clever features. It takes certain pedals much better than the Fender. For example, my big muff OP-amp sounds great through the Mesa due to the more prevalent mids. Also, I love that it has casters. What a great feature considering its weight. The DR has that classic Fender round sound. Of course the reverb on the DR just blows the Mesa away. Unfortunately, the DR is more of a one-trick pony. They're both great and you can't really go wrong with either. Thanks for the video!
  • I'm very jealous indeed! Great collection. Do you have big muff or wormhole etc ...

Good demo - nice chops.  Was the volume lower on the Mesa?  Either way, to me, the DRRi sounded much wider on the clean sets and maybe a little punchier on the dirty settings with single coils.  When you had the humbucker going, the Mesa sounded a little meatier.  And that red channel was very present, very nice.   Of all the settings, I like the very first DRRi cut and the Red Channel without the TS9.  Good work.

Since you own both and you hear them in person, how close can the Mesa get to that Fender?
  • @tommy8087
which between the two for a punchy clean at gig volume?
  • @tbshaw2157
And the pooch walks out on the Fender! LOL!

impossibile to tell what either amp really sounds like with neutral eq positions the Mesa is not designed to work at its best like that

would have been a good, informative video if you had used decent mics. hard to tell anything regarding sound over the phone cam
