  • Duolingo scared me enough as an app and with it's creepy ads but a tik tok is precisely what it needs to terrorise the entire planet.
  • @-waqsa
Duolingo being on TikTok to shame me for not doing my lessons feels like every single Spotify ad trying to shame me for not buying premium.
  • Everyone: scared of the Duolingo owl Me, with a 670+ day streak on Duolingo: I fear no bird, beast or man
  • I'll be honest, in the ranking of creepy mascots, Duo isn't that high up. It's more cute then creepy imo. I genuinely think just making it a large piece for the body and head helped a lot (looks like a giant plushy). Could you imagine if it was split in two to have an articulated neck? It would be more expressive, but in a bad way. I should probably go back to duolingo, I made more progress in french there then I did in my three years of high school (which might say a lot lol). But to make any decent progress you need to dedicate at least an hour a day to reviewing and learning new material and that can be a big investment some days.
  • Putting human eyes/mouths like that on things that are not supposed to have them has major annoying orange vibes and I HATE it. Also, the duolingo characters are genuinely fun, love the stories, wish all courses had them.
  • I also want to say there was a time when people shipped Duo and Hooty from The Owl House. And Duolingo was fine with it. So was Dana Terrace. That was an interesting time
  • Honestly- having an owl mascot plus having canon lgbtqia+ character couples is a powermove. I am definitely not in the Duo cult :D don’t send help <3
  • Owls don't feel sadness and cartoons also don't. However, cartoon owls are known to be very emotional, especially when it comes to sadness. This means that yes Jarvis, you very likely did make Duo sad. And not just sad, very sad. When taking care of a cartoon owl, you should always try your best (as your merch says) to not hurt their feelings, as they are easily hurt. I hope this bit of scientific trivia was helpful and I hope you will take good care of Duo in the future.

“I don’t ask for permission, I ask for forgiveness” -actual response from the Duolingo TikTok

I've only been using Doulingo for a little over a month now but I really love that they go out of their way to make their characters and stories diverse. Reading one of their stories about two women going on their honeymoon was really great. It's the little things.
  • As a part of the Owl House fandom, I’ve seen the havoc that this owl can bring to lives. This company will interact with any fans. Even the ones trying to ship their mascot with a children’s show character.

The time I felt the most fear was when the Duolingo reminder was randomly written in red text instead of the regular black text
  • i’d argue that both cartoons and owls can feel sadness, but i’m also convinced duo is some sort of demon and physically cannot.
  • I've been learning Irish on and off on Duolingo and one of the weird sentences that keeps popping up is "Tá an bhean/an fear sa chuisneoir" which means "the woman/the man is in the fridge." I do not know why there are people in the fridge and at this point I'm a little afraid to ask.

To be honest, I’m only keeping my almost 3 month hot streak for my family not to get kidnapped since I accepted the terms of services without reading them and I am afraid that it was on the contract
  • Okay honestly? I think the mascot is really really cute. Like I would want a plush of it.
  • As a resident of Minneapolis who does not use TikTok, the fact that they have a "brand" TikTok that is trying to be cutesy/cringe, with everything they've pulled in the last two years, is overwhelmingly infuriating
