The Natural History of Water on Earth with Walter Jehne

Publicado 2015-11-02
Australian soil and climate scientist Walter Jehne discusses how the five kingdoms of life have created water cycles, moving water through sea, soil and air, navigating tumultuous changes through geological ages to the present, and how the human presence has brought earth’s systems into a crisis in which water is also the potential vehicle for stabilization and renewal.

Presented at Biodiversity for a Livable Climate's "Restoring Water Cycles to Reverse Global Warming" conference October 16th-18th, 2015 at Tufts University.

  • Thank you so much, Walter Jehne, for painting this other perspective on how we can balance climate immediately as farmers - not waiting for the government - to buffer the extremes of weather that indeed seem to accelerate in the second half of my life. I feel empowered in my earlier chosen farming methods, since you backed them up with science, and I will keep implementing them full force on my land and hopefully inspire others to do so as well: no till, no bio-cides, always cover crop and mulch, harvesting the rain, planting trees, also on the pastures, manage the grazing, etc. You are so right: The CO2 narrative is not enough and is rather depressing (and not only because it is showing up as a global CO2 tax on my yearly energy-bill in the Netherlands; as if collecting taxes for the UN would be a solution). Much respect!

Walter, you are still a legend! Just as relevant (more so) than when I first heard you speak years ago. Keep it up!
