Amazing episode this week. Kiefer Sutherland (24, Designated Survivor) and Jason Patric (The Lost Boys) join us this week to talk about their bond built off of The Lost Boys, being intimidated by other actors, and what it was like growing up with Hollywood royalty in their families. Kiefer and Jason reminisce on how they met and how they each developed as young actors by helping certain productions of movies. The guys reveal some funny stories while on the set of Lost Boys and Kiefer’s wedding and later we discuss how social media and cinema coexist in modern day entertainment.

I love that Kiefer refuses to make himself a victim, with his childhood. He just says, "Dad was working. Mom took care of us. Our thing is our thing. " Incredible attitude for these days.

I'm bowled over by how mature Keifer is with regard to his upbringing. Kudos. And Jason's question is so sensitive and incisive. Killer podcast
  • I really admire Kiefer. He has such a wholesome, loving understanding of what it means to be a family member.
  • That Kiefer's mother had more influence on his acting than his father is refreshing to hear.

Weird, I am literally in the middle of watching Forsaken, starring both Kiefer and Donald Sutherland. Just started but so far it is excellent and both are doing their usual phenomenal acting jobs. Touching seeing them play father/son in a movie late in the game.
  • One of my all time favorite actors, I love his movie Phone Booth. Just hearing his voice on the phone in that movie is just so cool to me

Kiefer has definitely had his problems, but man he seems like a pretty legit dude. Just proud of his Dad's achievements, rather than worrying about any slights he may have caused him. Also, I thought at the end it was really cool of him to mention "and Michelle too" when discussing his divorce and how his daughter Sara didn't get a say. Michelle was his ex-wife's daughter from another marriage. Nice of him to make sure she's mentioned in the same breath as his daughter, since they are all a "family".
  • Donald Sutherland is one if those guys that got better looking with age, especially with the gray hair and beard.

My father was exactly like Michael's father. He died lonely and estranged from his family in the end. He died without ever telling his son that he loved him. I beat myself up for awhile after he died that I had not forced my way back into his life, but that is not what he wanted. I learned not to be angry or resentful that he didn't even know my now teenage kids, despite living 5 miles away. I learned to understand he was a broken man who had too much pride and insecurities to help himself, nor accept help from others. I have a totally different and close relationship w my kids. They know the love is unconditional.

Kiefers Grandfather..Tommy Douglas, was a preacher, and family doctor who entered politics because he wanted to help more people. And he did by bringing Canada it’s free healthcare system and minimum wage and vacation laws, when he became the Premier of the Province of Saskatchewan. Tommy Douglas is a true Canadian hero and Kiefer has been to Canada many times when his grandfather’s legacy is being honoured. Outstanding family.

Loved Shirley Douglas. A great actress with a good sense of humour and very proud of her Father, Tommy Douglas. (deservedly so). Kiefer has no reason to play victim. Both of his parents loved him, just differently. As a mature adult he accepts that.

I never knew Jason Patric's father was Jason Miller. Blew my mind.

Eye of the needle. Such a good movie. Even better book.

How sad that Kiefer was pretty much abandoned by his own father growing up due to a hard divorce:+( God bless him for forgiving his dad and attempting to do things differently. No job in fame is worth neglecting your child. God bless~

I think the big reason why there was no competition between them, and people will go "no duh" but it is a big deal, is the age difference between them and when they started acting. Donald is 30 years older and most people started seeing him in movies when he was already in his 30's(he was around 35 in MASH for example). By the time Kiefer started around 86/87, MASH was already 15 years old, Animal House and Body Snatchers were a decade old so people grew up watching Donald as an adult and older characters and knew him as these where as Kiefer was this young kid - you couldn't compare him to his dad because you never saw his dad in that age of role. And by the time Kiefer was in his 30's, he was a name himself so I think it is hard for them to compete with each other and I think it is hard for an audience to compare because of that.
  • Loved keifer in Freeway, such an awesome underrated 90’s gem. We used to quote “gimme some soup… with a FUCKING straw” endlessly in high school.

Both Kiefer and his Dad, Donald are amazing actors. Kiefer has had a light shining on his family going back to his grandfather who was the architect of universal healthcare in Canada, and a very respected man in Canada.
