Rodger to Shanks: "I'm waiting for Buggy D. Clown"

Not Whitebeard literally telling Teach "Youre not Him"

I really love the idea that Roger told Shanks that he wasn’t Joy Boy specifically because he’s actually a Celestial Dragon and not a member of the D. Clan. Shanks crying over that as a kid makes so much sense if that’s the case

9:46 I’ve been convinced for some time now the thing Roger told Shanks that made him cry was “I was too early, I couldn’t be JoyBoy and Neither can you, but the time will come soon and you can be the one to help JoyBoy return.” I think these words from Roger crushed a young Shanks who idolized Roger and either thought the entire time Roger could be JoyBoy or maybe even Shanks himself could be JoyBoy.
  • I feel like most of the time Oda is really careful with hiding things from us, but with Shanks and Blackbeard it feels more like he's careful to make sure we have at least a few really specific puzzle pieces. Nice video.

26:57 It wasn’t Shanks who cut off his arm it was Ben Beckman. Shanks had to read up on Kidd before he defeated him.
  • it wouldnt surprise me if Roger told Shanks a little something about what he learned not the island but, mainly how they were too "early" so he told Shanks something is gonna happen at X time and Shanks was just doing his thing waiting for the appointed time.

In regards to Shanks' statement in chapter 1054 about going to claim the One Piece, one interpretation I can think of is that he means to side with Luffy in some way. He makes that statement right after seeing Luffy's new wanted poster, which has his awakened form, and that might mean something to Shanks in relation to the One Piece. Just like Roger wasn't able to unlock whatever it was on Laugh Tale, Shanks maybe won't be able to either without the power of Nika.

Benn backman is the is the one who tooks Kid's arm implied in 1076 and confirmed in the SBS

An idea that I always had, is that Shanks did not stop Kaido from killing WB at Marineford: he stopped Kaido from siding with WB. Shanks obviously knows something that we don't. But considering his obsession with the arrival with the arrival of the new era, he knew that the death of one of the remnants of Roger's era was necessary for the Dawn of the new Era. Following your train of thoughts, Shanks is just doing a clean up of the old guard

Ben Beckman is the one who cut off Eustas Kid's arm.

I wonder if Garp along with Blackbeard could be failed Joy Boys. 1 becoming a slave to anarchy and the other becoming a slave to the system while Luffy was the one who maintained a desire to be totally free

I believe that the theme for Blackbeard's that he was a non-believer Buccaneer on Nika's second coming, as a person devoid from hope due to an even more tragic backstory than Kuma Blackbeard represents the will of power not for freedom for others through laughter/companionship as Luffy/Nika does, but for freedom only for himself no matter what
  • Great theory! I hadn’t considered that Shanks getting the Gomugomu is an inversion to Blackbeard getting the Yamiyami, but it makes a lot of sense. All this this theory fits together really well after that, but I can’t like the idea that it’s so predictable that Shanks is just the guardian or the one helping Luffy. Oda gives deep arcs to all of his characters and I believe Shanks’ backstory has to be deep in the same way Kuma’s was. Shanks is more of a mystery than even Kuma was. His connection to his lineage or his past has to be driving his motivation for everything he is doing. When that’s the case, it has to lead back to God Valley, where Roger, his hero and adopted father, helped the Celestial dragons defeat Rocks, who lead the world with corruption, brutality, and lies. Even if Shanks wasn’t seemingly a big part of God Valley, he was born there and had to have a big connection to that event. The other thing I think can be addressed in his arc is his abnormally powerful Haki. Why is it as powerful as it is? His Haki has become a big point of emphasis every time we’ve seen him. Considering we just fought the strongest beast in the world and he didn’t have that and we’re now fighting the Gorosei and they don’t have it, it seems to be something special for Shanks. Maybe not a natural occurrence.

The idea that shanks wanted to give the fruit to ace and recrute him first is very good. In addition, shanks finally thought that fate is a funny things when luffy told his True Dream to shanks ( sabo, ace and recently his crew ) He then decided to give Roger’s hat to luffy and put his plan to work Also I think that shanks gave his arm in Purpose.
  • great video, I do wanna point out tho that its heavily implied Ben Beckmann took Kid's arm, and Killer pointed out they didn't even get to see Shanks when it happened
