The end of the Islamic Golden Age: 1258 Historical Siege of Baghdad | Total War Battle

Published 2024-07-21
The siege of Baghdad took place in early 1258 at Baghdad, the historic capital of the Abbasid Caliphate. After a series of provocations from the city's ruler, Caliph al-Musta'sim, a large army under the Mongol prince Hulegu attacked the city. Within a few weeks, the city fell and was sacked by the Mongol armyβ€”al-Musta'sim was killed alongside hundreds of thousands of his subjects. The city's fall has traditionally been seen as marking the end of the Islamic Golden Age

This was a typically brutal Mongol conquest but the Caliph proved incompetent and out of his depth. This was the true end of an era, the Mongols had a knack for initiating such events.

Good teaching of history, instead of just, X,000 of A versus X,000 of B, which is mindless.
