What are ReDeads? Are they zombies created by Ganondorf... or something much scarier?

Do you agree with my theory on the ReDeads' origins? What're your theories?
  • @royaltyk9824
Meanwhile in Majora’s Mask: Redead dance party
  • Unlike other enemies, ReDeads do not burst into fire and smoke when defeated, but fall limp to the ground... and stay there.
  • @Chrysalis208
Im surprised you didnt bring something up. When you are put into a room with more than one redead. If you kill one and leave the other alone. You will see the other walk over to its fallen brother and appear to mourn over it. I know this happens in OOT, i havent played the other games with redeads in it so i cant confirm this happens there either.
  • The ReDeads have always been the scariest Zelda enemies to me, and honestly I can't tell if this theory makes that better or worse: knowing they aren't necessarily evil, just suffering.
  • @dasgrauel
If this theory proves true then... Did the Shieka make ganondorf a redead mummy in BotW2 so that they could keep ganon at bay and not reincarnating forever?
  • @haroohusky
You neglected to mention that when Link kills a ReDead, all other ReDeads present completely ignore him and stagger over to the one he just killed, where they look down at it and convulse. They don't snap out of it until that ReDead vanishes, so maybe that's another glint of humanity they possess: mourning for the loss of their kin.

“Here is gathered Hyrule’s bloody history of greed and hatred.”
  • What if the masks are there so people that find them don’t ever recognize them as a friend or relative •_•

Actually more horrifying than huddling in the fetal position: ReDead morn their own. The AI isn't really quite there in OoT, but in Majora's Mask kill a ReDead from a group while wearing a disguise mask that makes them nonaggressive (or stand out of their aggro range). The others will cluster around their fallen brother and stand there, heads bowed, being super creepy.

I love this and even more insane is I'm totally convinced you're right after this video, everything fits together too perfectly

As a kid when I played this... I used to have horrible nightmares about "the redead" aka "zombies from zelda" disturbing moaning, paralyzing your movements, and eating your brains
  • The monks agreed to their role though, so would it be possible that the redeads in the tombs were once Hylian soldiers who agreed to protect the royal family even in death?
  • @MagicMaster667
*8 y/o me playing Wind Waker* *sees ReDead* *pauses game, then runs off to make my older brother pick up the controller instead*
  • This makes me rethink collecting gyroids in animal crossing...imagine having re-deads in your kitchen for “aesthetic”.
  • To me one of the most unnerving part about WW's Redead is when you approach, but just far enough to not provoke them they will just turn their heads towards Link and stare at him, or rather right through him, with those empty black sockets..
  • @hysuka2
What if they are all Sheikah? We see that in Twilight, many of them rebelled and we're banished to the Twili Realm. What if before OOT, the royal family took the rebellious Sheikah, killed them all, and had the few remaining loyal Sheikah do this to them. It'd be the Royal Family's way of making the Sheikah literally serve them forever. Perhaps the remaining Sheikah even create the Sun Song as a way for someone to one day put their brothers and sisters out of their misery.
  • I know a perfect enemy to use in breath of the wild 2 that would scare us all. Updated ReDeads.
  • Anyone seen that post on social media where it's like "imagine if spiders screamed when you found them" my brain automatically thought of the redead from this game
