*Homemade masks will not prevent someone from becoming infected with Covid-19. They are approved by the CDC to be used as a last resort when all other PPE options have run out. Health providers experiencing shortages, who have handmade masks can use them on lower-risk patients allowing N95s to be reserved for emergency cases.

This mask features a flexible nose wire to allow for a tight fit along the nose and the option to use bias strips or elastic. It can be worn alone, in some cases, it is being layered over an N95 mask to extend its longevity.

It's important to use a tightly woven 100% cotton fabric. If you're not sure what tightly woven means hold it up to the light, you should not be able to see through it.

Please make sure that you prewash your fabric using a mild detergent and no fabric softener. This will help to shrink the fabric to prevent it from shrinking later on after it's been sewn.

  • Love the looping of the wire to secure it. I had pulled wire from wired ribbon for a project and kept the wire. Works good. Never know what you will use your scraps for.
  • Hands Down the best tutorial. Simple, easy instructions, very clear, and thorough. Easy to watch. Short and to the point. My exact style!
  • Thank you so much! I am making some of these for a friend's husband and the size you offer for XL is the perfect size for him. And from the bottom of my heart! Thank you so much for making this pattern available to the public! Continuing to subscribe to your channel!

The amount of respect I have for you when you give your fabric mask PSA at the beginning of each of these videos always rises. You are one of the only youtubers I've seen do this and it's very thorough. Thank you and please continue to do this work that with help us sewers help others during this time. <3 <3 <3 many hearts from NC
  • @DrJenYes
Excellent tutorial! Great instructions. Thank you!
  • @abbyoleary1146
Thank you for the very clear & detailed instructions. I watched several videos before choosing yours because it had the combination of easy instructions and effective mask. I am a beginner sewer and had to stop and watch other tutorials to figure out the zigzag stitch, etc. It took me 2 hours, but now that I’ve done it once, I am hoping to pick up speed!
  • Thankyou. I was drafted into making masks for the local hospitals. The pattern is great for my rudimentary sewing skills.
  • After trying a number of different patterns and tutorials, I found this one to be the best. Thank you for the pattern and easy to follow instructions.
  • @susanhoglund999
Thank you - this was just what I was looking for. I'm using a large straightened paper clip with the ends bent for the nose clip, because that's what I have available.
  • @Craft2Remember
I’ve been able to make these for my relatives and I had never even taken my machine out of the box! Total newbie to sewing! Thanks for such detailed videos.
  • @cassieoleary918
This is wonderful! Thank you! I changed how I did my elastic, I did one 10 inch cut in half, and then sewed 5 inches on both sides (making a C shape) and looped it behind my ears, worked great! Thank you for making this video!
  • @CarolCurler
YOU are the BEST! Your videos cured by "paralysis by analysis" and got me in my sewing room, being productive with masks!
  • @danah3127
This is the BEST mask tutorial and pattern. I am not an expert seamstress but this was easy to make. I used another tutorial and pattern for my first five masks and they took FOREVER and I was a stressed out mess halfway through the first. With this pattern and tutorial, I whipped out two masks that are so nice, my 19 year old son said he would wear one!! Thank you!!
  • Awesome job. Best and easiest tutorial I have seen so far. I have to say that I have made several different kinds the last few days and the worst design for protection and I think the hardest to make are the square pleated ones. They don't fit around your face tightly (many gaps) and they don't fit under the eyes very well. I am making mine with three layers. My husband bought me a mask that is really nice also. In stead of elastic around the ears, they used a type of knit stretchy material that is so nice and wears and fits well. Way better than elastic around the ears anyway.
  • Thank you for sharing your face mask pattern for your viewer. I can saw it and give it to my friends for free,
  • @ericabates5361
Hello, thank you for another Face mask Tutorial 😁 I made a few of the pleaded masks with elastic around the ears 😋 I wore it yesterday when I went shopping & the elastic was hurting my ears 😮 so I am going to make them with Bias Binding instead & I am going to try this style as well 😁💕 Erica x
  • Great tutorial with easy to follow instructions!! I didn't have elastic or bias tape, so replaced with 16" ribbon for each of the ties.
