  • There is a lot of sadness in her eyes. I think being called ugly and being made fun of really effected her deeply. When she goes back to her high school reunion, she thought her peers would be impressed with her success, however it was quite the opposite. She could have saved the world, and it wouldn't have been good enough for them. I wish she had lived long enough to see past this. She was a one of a kind talent.

It’s been 51 years and we haven’t forgotten you Janis. Your music has lived on, you did it.

Glad she left Texas, people treated her badly there. Snotty, rude, etc. She made history, her mean classmates did not.

I met Janis in 1970, just before she died, when she was partying on a houseboat close to the one I was staying on. I still treasure all of her singing. An authentic angel!
  • My oldest son is one of her biggest fans and he was born in 81. I think he's just an old soul. He absolutely loves her!!!

We grow up seeing her as a larger than life woman. She was still a 20-something kid, trying to figure out herself and life, with one of the most talented voices in the world. She didn't get to live long enough to become the woman she would be. Those in the generation who actually got to see her perform now have grandchildren older than she was. 💔

Dick Cavett was absolutely captivated by Janis Joplin. He was almost giddy whenever she was on his show. He asked her about her influences, and she mentioned Tina Turner. But the biggest surprise was that Cavett had never heard of Ike & Tina Turner!

She was prettier than she gave herself credit. She was a story teller also. She knew when to scream and when to whisper. To bad addiction took her out. I pray for her. We sure miss her. I appreciate all the music She left behind...🥺🥰💜🔥

  • 13:55 Cass Elliot giving Janis a "Wow" at Monterey. I've always loved that bit. They were both brilliant.

This is probably one of the most touching documentaries I have seen of Janis. I can´t help but longing and crying. It is a very strange feeling. Thank you for sharing this. As an artist I can totally relate to the loneliness than she must have experienced. No one can never understand, only relate. Like Pink says, hearing her is like being close to God. She was chanelling all her emotion in a very naked, truthful way. Bless her.
  • Love that moment the audience stands up and cheers for her at the Monterey pop festival. What a change for her to go from being voted " ugliest man" in high school to being totally embraced and adored by thousands. Also, what kind of bullshit school allows a vote like that to even happen in the first place? Janis kicked ass, she wore her heart on her sleeve and her voice transcended all those closed minded boring standards of beauty that existed then and today. Long live the Blues!

Janis was way before my time, but the glow of that shooting star still could be felt in my life, her music is part of the soundtrack of my life. I was in my musician daughter’s car the other day, and on her playlist she had added some Janis, after I made her listen to her one day, I was SO PROUD that now Janis’ music is passed on to a new generation. I cried when I told my kiddo that it’s a shame that she’s gone, she should be here, inspiring her granddaughters with her music and being the authentic, real human being she was, accepting of herself, her age and time, but transcending all time and just settling into wherever the cosmos took her. Not like that polar opposite, that horrendous fool Madonna, with all her plastic surgery and stupidity trying to stay relevant. Janis would have still been respected and relevant today, rock goddess, badass, and flower child. She will always be that young wild child that she was, singing her heart out on the stage. 🌞🌼

I was a teen when she died and it absolutely broke my heart. I was listening to her at a time when other people thought I was a freak because I did.
  • I grew up in San Francisco. got to see her performing. wish we had such good music 🎶 now.😢
