In order to renovate this old stone barn into our home, we must insulate the ceiling. We take a different approach in order to DIY this renovation, but in the end we will cover the insulation with wood paneling and beams similar to what was before.

We are Heather, Bradey, Alexa and Chloe. We purchased an abandoned stone barn in the foothills of the Italian Alps and we are working together as a family to renovate and restore this old stone barn into our dream home.

  • I imagine your neighbors across the valley will be relieved when all the noisy work has been completed. Your home is coming along nicely. Look forward to your moving in day!
  • Great work! Again Brady, you are amazing. 😊. Get better Heather. 🥰 Hope you aren’t down for long. Laughter is GOOD medicine & I loved ❤ hearing your fit of giggles when Brady was drilling & getting wood rained on. Priceless. Both of you. ❤ 😊 All the best 🇨🇦🥰😎 Thanks for sharing. 😊❤ xoxo
  • Consider hardwired power strips for under top cabinets in kitchen. Eliminates plug-ins spread all over backsplash. More attractive and easier tiling area. Helps with conduit channels too. Have outlets where you need them.
  • I think the Lone Ranger was really a guy who spent a huge amount of his time, on his own, and built an amazing house! (That's not to take away from the guys who've been there to do the stonework and pour cement). Get well soon, Heather. You're a champion, Brady. Dealing with building codes in English is hard enough. I can't imagine doing it in Italian so it makes sense logically.
  • I wouldn’t risk using the 2 “moldy” panels. Whatever it is may spread. Why take the chance? And, I’d return them for credit/more material.

That was so funny seeing this massive white cube coming up the drive! 😂 I love a surreal moment. I hope Heather is feeling better. It’s hard to get enough rest with two kids and moms are the worst at prioritizing their needs. Take time for yourself, Heather. You deserve it! ❤ Well done, Brady! I also would opt to replace the moldy insulation.

Hi Brady, something to think about is putting the backsplash outlets on the bottom of the upper cabinets. That makes them hidden from view and you don’t have to cut tiles around the outlets. It’s a cleaner look. Are you planning for any under cabinet lighting? Also please wear ear protection when doing this work!!! The project is turning out spectacular!
  • Your home is coming along nicely. Will be beautiful . Heather, hope you feel better real soon!
  • Use have come a long away I have watched yous from the beginning until now just can't wait to see the rest xx😊
  • This is going to he one spectacularly, beautiful place. I can't wait to see it finished and lived in! 😮 Pity about the new insulation saga; covering the beautiful woodwork, they've spent so much time on! 😢😢
  • Have been loving joining you on your journey with this new home. Such hard work. Yes, mould! Get rid of it!! Please
  • @wizard4121
I’d replace the moldy insulation. It’ll cause you worry forever if you don’t. It’ll drive you crazy and you’ll end up having to redo it but after everything is finished. That would be a nightmare! And you know you’re a perfectionist 😂
  • It's definitely mold and yes, you should replace them, because they can contaminate the rest.
  • Aww thank you so much for sharing this beautiful journey with us you guys are so amazing keep up the good work
  • Amazing job as usual. Sqeeeeeeky! I would definitely ditch the mouldy panels as I know how bad mould can be for the health and how easily it spreads.
  • I would take out those mouldy boards . Why take the chance and risk future problems . You are doing a great job
  • @rosaarias7128
Wow. So much good progress. It will be beautiful. ❤
  • @lovleypoppy
Replace the moldy foam boards. It's not worth it in the long run.
