With the first batch of Ukrainian F-16s expected to enter the fight this year, questions remain about just how survivable these 4th generation fighters will be in the contested airspaces of this conflict.

But if the performance of Major Emmet Tullia during the Package Q Strike of Desert Storm is any indicator, Ukraine's F-16s have a solid shot at playing a big role in this fight.

“Nothing but the aircraft he rode in on… and the giant brass balls he brought with him”

But don't forget about the pilot who would not leave him calling out left low ...right low ...under.... Can't forget about him

Sweden announces they're sending ASC 890 planes to Ukraine. At the very least, would make it easier for F-16s to operate

    That's one bad ass F16 pilot.🇺🇸👍

You didn't say that you're Alex Hollings.

The two Swedish airborne early warning aircraft given to Ukraine today will definitely help the F-16's!
  • @zbyszanna
So he dodged the first missile with two 2k pound bombs on board? Nice.

I was there in the UAE. One of our F-16s came back looking like someone had taken a ballpeen hammer to the bottom of it! Close near miss with one of the SAMs! I watched Tullia's gun cam footage when he came back. Pretty scary!!😮

True story about the pilot that out-flew the 6 SAM's : It took 5 hours to get the seat out of his ass. ETA Yes, I jest. But, mad respect for the Pilot. Thinking he's throwing flares and chaff, but out-flew them with his instinct and stick. No salad can reward this. Only the respect of his fellow Pilots. /salute
  • What might really aid the Falcons is Swedes are donating ASC 890 Airborne Surveillance and Control aircraft plus Rb 99 AMRAAM missiles. The two AWACs hopefully will give the pilots some serious situation awareness and make missions a bit safer.

I think if Russia is going to take advantage of the USA's prohibition of hitting targets in Russia by firing missiles and artillery from within Russia, Ukraine should be able to keep their F16s in Poland, Finland, Estonia, etc. Seems fair.

The thrust to weight ratio of an F-16 is very impressive. They can do very impressive maneuvers in the sky. The Viper air shows almost rip holes in the sky.

Agreed. Airframe experience makes a huge difference. I wish those guys the best of luck. This will be the most analyzed look at F-16 usage since Desert Storm and as a retired Airman (1998-2020 Intel Analyst turned Targeting Analyst), I, too, will be watching closely. Another great video, Alex. Keep up the good work. 👍

There’s footage of the incident too if you’re interested, it even includes the cockpit video of him and radio communications some of which were I believe coming from another that had been shot down and I believe was in the process of ejecting when he told that pilot to roll or maneuver in a specific way to miss a missile he could see but the pilot didn’t see and the downed pilot did and obviously helped save his life. I think that other pilot was held as a POW for awhile too but ultimately survived

Great story, great pilot, great airframe.
  • @verdebusterAP
The simple answer is yes The key to the F-16 survival is it not trying to engage Russian aircraft in the air and staying well clear of S-300 and S-400 sites SHORADs and jammers are vital targets that F-16s must engage with AGM-88s and unlike the MIG-29 and Su-27, the F-16 can fully use it in all modes As long as Ukraine doesnt overstretch, they will be good

Hey! where's my ''I'm Alex Hollings '' bit? I always like it.
