Devastating storm leaves 400,000 Chicago area residents without power

ComEd has been working around the clock to restore power to customers across Chicagoland after rare severe weather system. ComEd's Neena Hemmady said at one point more then 430,000 customers were affected, but over night crews have restored power to 43%.

    I'm without power about 8 seconds while my 33kw second hand diesel generator cranks and transfer happens. Having been in the dark 2 months after Hugo in 89, I swore "Never again." I paid $500 to a hospital clinic for mine with 280 hours on it. 250 gallons of fuel is stored underground refilled by grateful neighbors who have long cables to it to give them power.

    Most of em don't already, it's summer. They can shut off your power in the summer if you haven't paid your bill.

    I prayed and I’m very blessed that the praying worked. The lights didn’t go out,nothing bad happened, no damages, but kinda a lot of damages around my home.
