Bodycam footage shows a third-grade teacher being questioned by Oklahoma police after allegedly showing up heavily intoxicated on the first day of school on August 17. The video shows Kimberly Coates awkwardly denying being drunk before blowing a 0.24 BAC during a breathalyzer test. Coates would later admit to drinking late the night before and the next morning on the way to work, but denied having any alcohol on school property. The school resource officer pressed her, referencing her cup of “juice.” “Want to try again? That there is wine,” the officer said. Perkins police took Coates into custody and later released her. It’s unclear whether formal charges will be filed against her. Read more on this story: bit.ly/47JlPef

I couldn’t imagine having the worst day of my life, and having it posted to YouTube for the whole world to see.

The fact that she's so adamant about not calling her husband, leads me to believe that her husband is very, very tired of this behavior.

UPDATE: She was arrested a second time for public intoxication, three months after this school incident, when she showed up to court drunk.
  • @CBright7831
Wow. She really opted to go to jail rather than call someone.

It’s so strange to be able to witness a complete stranger hit rock bottom so hard.

For everyone defending her, please remember she would’ve been behind the wheel driving home had she not been caught at 3X the legal limit.
  • The patience and professionalism of the principal is exemplary.

Apparently she arrived at court again under the influence of alcohol. It's indeed very sad.

This is actually so sad to watch. I don’t think she is a bad person, it just seems like she’s been fighting a hard battle for a while. I hope she gets the help she needs

Back when I was a teacher, I had a teacher friend who was an alcoholic. I knew he had a problem but had no idea that he was drunk at work. He was caught, lost his job, went through a really rough patch, but is now 5 years clean and sober and completely turned his life around. I hope this woman gets help.

imagine the moment she eventually realized she could have just called an uber and gone home

She said she was born in 1970? She looks a decade older than she actually is. I had a co-worker who literally couldn't function without drinking wine. Her body literally needed it, or she would seize. It was tragic. She's currently serving 6 months for her third DUI. I pray this is the final awakening she needs.

This was incredibly sad to watch... This is a rock bottom moment for someone struggling with alcohol and depression.

Imagine how many times this woman has been drunk in class and hasn't been caught. This is jarring.
  • She should have just called someone from the first time she was said she could. I don’t blame them for arresting her. Enough was enough.

While this is extremely sad, you can’t say she didn’t have all the chances in the world to not go to jail.
  • @059hambone
The fact that she says “I thought I was doing a good job today” sounds to me like she’s been coming to school drunk for awhile… thats terrifying
  • @boxofcereal
They were incredibly patient and gave her every opportunity to be honest and she STILL has a crying fit when they actually follow through with arresting her
