Theorists, we need to talk about ‪@tryguys‬ situation and by that I mean the mainstream media coverage of it. See, I think the Try Guys handled the situation with professionalism. You know who didn't? The media making fun of them for being YouTubers. That SNL skit? Not a good look. So, let's talk about all of it.

The weird thing is “guy builds brand on his love for his wife then cheats on his wife” is a WAY funnier skit idea than “guys are mad that he put hos before bros”
  • @BlueJeiVA
Keith, Zach, and Eugene handled this issue better than any company has handled any controversy in YEARS.
  • @siobhanash897
MatPat really said, “I’m going to say what everyone at second try is thinking but cannot say because of lawsuits”
  • @OliviaHeath18
Keith, Eugene, and Zach all revealed on their podcast that Ned is actually really good friends with journalists and people at places like SNL. They kind of hinted that Ned used his connections with them to make the articles you’ve mentioned, so if it seems like SNL and the Times are defending Ned, that’s because they are and their wrong take on the situation was a conscious attempt at making Ned look better
  • After the sketch aired, Becky (Keith’s wife) remembered that Ned had a friend that became a SNL writer. Dan Bulla. They both were in a comedy group called Warm Milk, and it just so happens Dan was working on the scripts for this season of SNL…and he did the script for the Try Guys skit.
  • The way she said that they’re mad he had a “side-hoe” and totally trivializes cheating and marriage in general just depresses me. This is where we are, where cheating seems commonplace now.

It’s both disturbing and depressing that the media’s first response to a company actually taking an inappropriate employee misconduct case SERIOUSLY is to either make “bros before hos” jokes or attempt to discredit them entirely. 😤 I won’t be sorry when their entire industry dies from their negligence and spite.

When I was a kid, my dad cheated on my mom and they got divorced. That's the super short version, lol. Whenever something like this happens, it always angers me to see people make it seem like a man cheating on his wife is simply what happens, it's commonplace, it's not a big deal. That experience put my family through so much pain, my mom especially. That's why it was so refreshing for me to see how to Try Guys handled it, professionally without diminishing the harm Ned caused. They didn't sweep it under the rug or say "well that's what happens in marriages." I hope more companies and people will reflect that attitude in the future

It's not often MatPat gets genuinely upset and pissed, but when he does, you know it's something very bad.
  • @sassytart28
The most disturbing thing is how the mainstream media doesn't condemn the fact he cheated on his wife and acting like that's an ok thing to do.
  • snl and the new york times really thought they did something. It's disgusting to see how they're essentially protecting ned. I'm so proud of Keith, Zach, Eugene, and all the employees.
  • Ned Fulmer had a year long affair while having a wife and son, and creating a second son with his wife during said affair. He was married with kids, she was engaged to a fellow coworker. Both of them ruined friendships, and their partner's lives, along with damaging the company they worked for. I'm still mad about this.
  • I also think part of the reason SNL made the try guys the villain instead of Ned is because Ned has friends who are writers in the show, and they didn’t want to make him look bad

It's crazy how the media will NEVER talk about actual toxic content creators and will instead thrown gasoline at an ember

One more comment: As a woman, I am so proud of The Try Guys and the way they handled this. They could have kept quiet and pretended to know nothing about the whole thing, but they stepped up and dealt with it. It reminds me of one of my all-time favorite movie lines, “Love is love, but business is business.” (Auntie Vera, from the movie ‘Secret of My Success’).
  • @rexmcdowd
The only reason mainstream media outlets are mad about this story is because if the Try Guys handle stuff like this responsibly then they might have to as well.
  • @jordan_s717
Why do I feel like we were all on a group project at school together and Matpat just did all the work for us?
  • @marycom15
Matpat somehow manages to be the old guy and the young guy on the internet at the same time. In a very positive way - the bridge we didn't deserve, but needed
  • I remember when that snl episode aired and I was watching it with my family and then when I saw a skit that featured the try guys and their situation I was so excited that they could get recognition, sympathy, and even praise from a whole new demographic about the situation. Then the second the actors started talking I was immediately disappointed. I kept waiting and waiting for a comment about Ned because they were being so mean and just false about the try guys that I figured they were going to make so many jokes about what ned did but there was nothing. Also the fact that the try guys have built such a reliable reputation for not being irrational and dramatic just for snl to portray them so heavily as such is just so upsetting especially since this is the first impression of the try guys to a whole new demographic. I remember my parents making comment like “how could you watch these guys, they are so stupid to act this way about someone’s personal business” and I honestly just didn’t even try. It spread a completely false story and it honestly just made me unamused by snl and just bored with all of their skits after they did the try guys skit.

I did notice that the group was hurt that Ned lied to them. They don't want to talk badly about him because they were long-time friends. Better to keep it simple and keep it business related
