Marvel Studios has found its Doctor Doom—and it's Robert Downey Jr., who got a hero's death as Tony Stark in 2019's Endgame and will return to play the villain in the next two Avengers films. As in years past, the Marvel Studios panel was the event of San Diego Comic-Con 2024.

  • So much for redeeming and recasting Kang. Now he's Doomed.

RDJ to Faige: You could not live with your own failure. Where did that lead you? Back to me.

I do not doubt RDJ's acting abilities. It just has the same energy as when the CW kept recasting Tom Cavanaugh as a different Harrison Wells EVERY season of The Flash, instead of just letting him be Reverse Flash.
  • It would have been the reveal of the century if being that mask it was RDJ going tropic thunder mode to play kang

"No one's ever really gone." Best describes Marvel's multiverse problem with no real lasting consequences. It's almost like having the Dragon balls, we can just wish everything back to normal after the bad thing happens and half the planet gets Thanos snapped from existence. Also, RDJ as Doctor Doom makes no sense. And most MCU normies are going to think Doctor Doom is just evil adjacent Iron man.

If RDJ is truly playing Victor Von Doom, and we meet the character in FULL Doom mode. Then we should NEVER see RDJ's face, because Doom removes his helmet for no one.
  • Iron Man and Doctor Doom become each other in some comic stories. Kang is gone and forgotten.
  • This is another reason why animation is better than live action.
  • put makeup, fake scars, and make him Bald like in the comics so he looks completely unrecognizable than it would be fine

I came back from seeing Deadpool and wolverine and thought wow that was awesome and then I saw this and we’re back on the downhill train.
  • @gdprsn
Deadpool; Disney is going to make them do this till their ninety
  • It’s based on a storyline where Victor von doom switched bodies with a Tony Stark. YAAAWN it was Ookay back then In a man with the iron mask as a comic kinda way) But with Disney it’s a lazy pull Disney: «Look guys! Multiverse Tony!» Criquet: woo yay!
  • I'm so tired of the same big named actors getting all these roles in all these movies. On top of that the writing, filming, editing, VFX have been creatively bankrupt in these movies. I miss the days we had tons of animation, with gritty & mature stories. I wish they would hire a bunch of random actors that FIT the role of the character!
  • @skits_3d824
It's the ol' DC thing of the dead never stay dead, or Disney star wars's "No one is ever really is gone." Yet when they do that, it REALLY DOES diminish the sacrifice of previous characters that died.
  • i love how someone in the crowd called it seconds before rdj takes the mask off...its not surprising and its a move made out of despertation "hey guys remember when these movies were good 15 years ago?....heres tony!"
  • The multiverse isn't inherently bad. Just a easy for writers to abuse (emphasis on easy, not able to period). Though, we do need more multiverse stuff where it isn't just slightly different timelines.
  • @CyGea
Doom rarely removes his mask and shows his face. RDJ can just do what Pedro Pascal did for the Mandalorian.
  • I feel like the crowd that cheered must have been paid to cheer. When I saw the headline I just rolled my eyes. They are so desperate and completely ignorant as to what works. Deadpool made so much fun of them and their way of doing things that I laughed throughout the movie. It’s all corporate BS trying to find that magic formula
  • @geardog24
This feels like a huge bait and switch. Either they’re messing with fans and waiting to reveal the real or Mr. Downey Jr. character is going to be a fake stand in for the real Doom.
