You can easily Add HDMI to any android phone or tablet using an inexpensive Displaylink adapter from eBay!
I've tested this with the POCK F3, Google Pixel 6 Pro, Galaxy A32 and the Moto G Play and it works with all of them.
This is a great option for those who want HDMI video on an Android device that dent natively supports Alt Mode or Dimply over USB C.

  • I still believe that HDMI ALT should be mandatory for all modern smartphones, even if you only have USB-C 2.0.

It's frustrating that you can count on one hand the number of manufacturers that have phones with built-in support for USB C to HDMI. Of course, the other side of the equation is software like Dex to make the most of it, but it's a shame that functionality isn't part of Android in any useful way.
  • I just bought this for $18 and it worked with my Pixel 2! Connected my phone to a small usb hub with a charging port and was able to charge my phone while casting as well. Also the device takes sound from the phone and can transmit it through HDMI. Amazing! I bought the Chinese adapter from one of your other videos before this and that one had a noticeable lag. Also, the HDMI part that plugged into the screen got extremely hot after short use. I had to return it on day one.

Hello, I just want to point out that resolution can actually be changed without root. All you need is ADB. You can either use PC or just the phone itself (if you have Android 11+). Full HD example: adb shell "wm size 1080x1920; wm density 160" More items can fit on the screen as the density is set to lower. To reset: adb shell "wm size reset; wm density reset" For notched screens, I recommend setting "Simulated display with cutout" to Waterfall cutout. If you're on Android 11 or older, black bars would vanish in landscape. Tested on Samsung ROMS (since Android 7.0). Other ROMs may not play well. Don't go crazy with the values. Try at your own risk!

Guys, guys, don't buy this product. I promise you will be disappointed. I once bought a wired casting device featured in an ETA Prime video before. (1) the lag IS bad, you can actually see plainly in the video that it's bad. Unless you are extremely OK with laggy gameplay, don't do it. (2) What you probably won't see in this video is that the video output will look very compressed and not crisp 1080p at all. This setup is squeezing the video signal through USB 2.0 speeds. If you want TV output from a phone, you're much better off buying a used OnePlus 7 Pro or Galaxy S10.
  • For anyone wondering, I ordered one of these and I use a USB c splitter to charge my phone while using the displaylink.

Allow screen rotation under launcher settings on Pixel 6 will give you the ability to rotate while connected to the external monitor.

This is what I needed. I never thought it existed. Thank you.

Something that's blowing my mind here is that in your short Asphalt clip, the timer on the top right of the game on the monitor is actually AHEAD of the timer on the phone. For example at 6:57 in the video the timer on the monitor reads 00:28.461, whereas it reads 00:28.378 on the phone. So the monitor is ahead by 83ms. Essentially the monitor is predicting the future.

You didn't mention anything about the power supply at all. It just sort of appeared after you spoke about the USB B cable.

Hi there, if you remember you posted a video of similar type of hdmi from any phone months ago, which used miraplug, i bought that one but was dissapointed with the quality of video, i mean there was some sort of compression which decreased the image quality, even though it was quite lag free but mostly i wanted to use it for video out and any miracast system even wired one compresses output of the video, unlike a real usb 3.1 alt out phones. So i was wondering about the quality of the displaylink, does it also compresses the output of the video or is it like a real usb 3.1 alt out like hdmi. thanks again, you always post interesting tech videos.

Bought displaylink adapter on AliExpress for like 8 dollars 2 years ago. Worked with my Xiaomi.
  • If you have Samsung you can connect to your Tv with Samsung Dex wirelessly. Or just use Smartview and you can also go into settings to make it fullscreen. This way you dont need all the wires and you can still charge.
  • @Synth_Gaming
I just bought one on eBay for 30 dollars with all the cords (most don't have them), I can't wait to play emulation or Xbox Gamepass Cloud using my phone. Awesome video, thanks!
  • This video comes at a perfect time! I was searching for something like this and you are here to save my life. Thanks alot!

This method is super working but i dont recommended using usb c to a adapter instead use usb c hub with pd to make it safe btw im using wavlink usb 3.0 displaylink adapter for around 7 months now and using it both of my red note 9s and currently my xiaomi pad 5 and works super flawlessly with a little bit of tweak for the miui devices
  • @tom611
I wish they'd add 16:9 output option to these apps like when doing wireless casting. My current Galaxy A51 is not only 21:9, but when rotated sideways shrinks a little bit on the left to avoid showing the hole-punch camera, which looks fine on it's own screen, but casts that to the adapter too. So, I end up with not just the bars on top and bottom, but a bar and rounded corners on left. I don't really want to root my phone either.
  • @chacaabbaylee768
DUDE!!! YOU ARE AMAzing for thiS! They killed so much mhl support on phones after kitkat and this is stunning! No wifi, no crap. Just mirror and save tons of aggrivation. Serious thank you bro. I will share this with the right people
  • Damn, that's a nice lag free option for devices w/o video out. Shame my mini hub doesn't have Displaylink. I see Wavlink has a smaller USB 3 to HDMI Displaylink device for about 40usd on Amazon. How well does Displaylink handle over USB 2 speeds, many Xiaomi phones still use that spec for their USB C ports?
