Today, we trace the origins and migrations of the Men of Middle-earth, including how the three Houses of the Edain were founded - the ancestors of the Númenóreans. Starting from the time men awake in the far East, to them become the Houses of Bëor, Haleth, and Hador.

We tend to forget that Elrond and Elros not only were descended from all 3 houses of the Edain, but also of the 3 houses of the Eldar.
  • Hurin's words to Morgoth are one of the most underrated badass moments in Tolkien's works!

I've been so Depressed from grieving for so long over a loved one. These videos are truly the only thing that consistently cheer me up. Thank you.
  • I loved how nuanced tolkiens languages are. Just now I realized that the elvish word dunedain, is simply the word dun, which means west, and Edain. Thus meaning western edain, the numenoreans.
  • @Rosula_D
The fact that Men managed to travel the entire continent in less than 3 centuries and developed a variety of cultures and languages showcases how change is not a curse but a miracle too. I always get in my feelings about Finrod and his human buddies 😢
  • @Jayjay-qe6um
The Sindarin word Edain, singular Adan (Quenya Atani, Atan), meant 'second people', and originally referred to all mankind - later it applied specifically to the Men of Beleriand and their descendants. However, the Quenya name Atani remained as a term for all mankind.
  • I finished the Silmarillion for the second time recently. Strongly considered just restarting it immediately. It’s become my favorite story, even more so than Lord of The Rings. LOTR is a realistic take on a fantasy adventure, still mostly concerned with men. Silmarillion tells of incredible events before history even began, right up until the end of the greatest Elven civilizations in Middle-Earth. The creation of the Silmarils, the tale of Beren and Luthien, The Battle of Unnumbered tears….it makes Sauron and the War of the Ring look like what it is: an echo, a shadow of greater battles and threats that have always existed and plagued the Peoples of middle Earth.
  • Tolkien's creativity, thoroughness and dedication to detail are always astonishing. The history of men could be a series of books/shows/movies all on their own. Same for the elves and dwarves. Keep up the awesome work.

Gotta love how Hurin insulted a Satan analogue in the most badass way possible
  • Can you make a separate video about the House of Haleth or Haleth herself. Totally underrated among the three houses of the Edain.
  • Indeed, and just to clarify a bit, Hador was the the grandfather of Hurin and Huor, and the mother of the brothers was Hareth of the House of Haleth. And to connect everyone even further, the mothers of Turin and Tuor, Morwen and Rian, were cousins and members of the House of Beor, specifically their fathers were the first cousins of Beren.
  • I do not always comment, neither can I support you other than by subscribing and watching your videos. However, I really want you to know how much joy your channel brings me. So keep up the great work and don't leave Middle Earth yet, okay?! There will be another ship that can bear you to the Undying Lands!😉
  • These videos are so useful for those of us who’ve read Tolkien’s work over a long period of time, and struggle to find the time (or audio books) to re-read them! Thank you!! 😊
  • The Sundering of the Elves is more well-known to us Tolkien scholars, but its great to see how men awoke and travelled throughout time. Its a lesser known piece of the lore that few knew until now. And its shown in an easy and visual way. I always wondered how men awoke and travelled to Beleriand and how the groups of men splitted from one another like the Elves did when they awoke and travelled to Valinor.
  • @sewkzoo
You nailed it on this one! The music along with Hurin's defiance of Morgoth... excellent.
  • We know it takes a lot of time and dedication towards these videos. Love from Sri Lanka. Brilliant video. We always appreciate your hard work and dedication towards these videos.
  • You didn't have to go that hard in reading Morgoth's lines, but you did, and it made this video superb.
  • I realized while watching this, this would make for such a great tv series, each season focusing on each houses.
