Heavy rain for parts of the North Island, colder weekend for NZ

Low pressure crosses the North Island over Tuesday and moves out to the east of the North Island in the coming days - encouraging more rain and showers around the North Island, mostly in the east. The wind flow will be a south-easterly for many in the north which should see western areas drying back out again.

The South Island will get brushed by some patchy light rain and drizzle in the east but in the days ahead a sou’wester kicks back in bringing wintry weather this weekend.

    Winter already in Christchurch, in terms of frosts and cold bleak days. At least 3-4 weeks earlier than last year.
