Fun fact, Niggle is the name of a fictional character in a J.R.R. Tolkein short story. And also the name of my fish.

My favourite part of the video is Dawid looking at two white things and deciding which one looks better

I think the glossy "coating" my LG C2 uses is perfection. I wish every monitor would just be exactly like that.

I'm 45, so when I saw shades of green, my first thought was "That's weird that they did a Game Boy mode." Then you were like "Night Vision Mode" and I was like "Oh, yeah." And, the funny thing is, I was in the Army 20 years ago, so I've used NVGs.
  • As someone who has astigmatism that results in matte coatings turning all monitors into Vaseline, I approve of glossy monitors. It's nice to see that there are lower priced options than the 4k QD-OLED panels coming out.... but I think I'll keep my 4k 240Hz ;)

I think people attribute a lot of the dirty screen effect to matte coatings when it's also a bit of a uniformity issue. LG has referred to it as the Mura effect (not their term, its been around), it's just an artifact of having pixels, they can't all be exactly perfect and your eyes perceive that extremely slight color/brightness variation as dirtiness on pure white scenes. Similar to CPU/GPUs, there is a sort of "silicon lottery" to display panels, sometimes you just get a busted demon panel that technically isn't out of spec but kinda blows ass. I've had an LGC1 (which is glossy) for years now and boy is that thing grainy on white screens (probably doesn't help that it has a low PPI and relatively low brightness). But I also have a 32gs95ue (32" 4k matte coating), and I don't see anywhere near as much grain on this as the glossy c1 (still some, but not as much, also seems worse on darker greys than pure whites). Maybe I have geriatric eyes cause I've seen people having full meltdowns about how vomit inducing this screens coating is, but I just don't see it on mine.

You know, there's a lot of disavantages about being mostly colorblind, but one thing I dont have to be picky about is the details of monitors like color accuracy or color bleed for blooming.

The resolution of what you see in all those reflections is really impressive. And if the sun comes out it automatically adjusts your priorities in life. If thats what you want from gaming tech.

I wish you'd put model numbers in your video description!

Dawid for the love of god get them to put the shop on the north end of Miami. They won't get any staff putting it on the south end and the place will run like garbage. For those who don't know, South Miami shares it's workforce with the Keys because no one can afford to live on the islands. The keys pays them massively more than Miami does so unless Microcenter is hiring at $25/hour ONLY 9 to 5 they are going to have a bad time.

I have the 32" 4K WOLED from LG with matt coating for two weeks now. The internet is going wild for it to have a non-glossy coating. I took several monitors here and all I can say that in the realm of matt coatings the LG has the best matt coating. My TV is a C1 so I do understand the appeal of glossy. I do agree that the difference is quite small.

I finally got an OLED earlier this year. I went for a matte OLED because I keep my computer close to a giant window. And also it was roughly $200 cheaper than the cheapest glossy model. And I think the first thing I realised was that I definitely made the right decision by not selling my old PG279Q... Because while the OLED does have much better blacks and an upgrade from 165Hz to 240Hz is definitely an upgrade I find the dimming of the screen whenever displaying something white on the full screen extremely distracting. So I actually use my old IPS more than the OLED. I am definitely happy I got it. But I'm also definitely going to get another IPS whenever the current one kicks the bucket.

That microcenter deal might be the best they have ever done.

The very first thing I thought of when i got my first LCD monitor was how weird it was that it wasn't shiny like every other monitor I've ever owned - it felt not real. I don't mind the idea of a glossy screen.
  • @MarcAureIe
I bought both a glossy Qd Oled (Aorus) and a matte samsung. The glossy was better, blacks were deeper, colors more vibrant, and the matte had some greyish haze I didn't like in a bright room. I think you're missing out on some Oled benefits when buying a matte / semi matte oled display

As a science nerd, I enjoyed the Microcenter joke🤣
  • There was a trick with LCD displays that you could lay wet paper towels onto the LCD panel overnight (keeping it inside the plastic bag to not let water to evaporate) and then you could carefully peal matting layer from the screen
