Just made this bread and my husband groaned in delight from the other room as he tasted a slice ❤

Deep in the Hundred-Acre Wood Where John Kirkwood cooks You'll find the enchanted Kitchen Of John’s cooking days

John, I hope you know how much joy you bring to people. I have no contact with my Dad and hardly any with my Mum. I have nobody showing me how to do things like this. I could listen to your videos all day. You have a soothing voice and come across as a friend or family member showing people how to cook and it fills a void for many people. Plus your recipes never fail ❤
  • @WastrelWay
You are the man who proofs the yeast! I see too many bread recipes where they skip that step. It's important. We people can't afford to throw away all that flour when the bread doesn't rise.

Love his videos but i never realized until today that John Kirkwood sounds like Winnie the Pooh and now I can't not hear it.

I use a Dutch oven for most of my bread, but this time I tried your cold Dutch oven method, but making a seeded loaf, what turned out was one of the softest and tastiest loaves I have ever made, Thanks John, I love your videos. Tom

Well well.  Just out with the dog.  Received this notification and hey ho, I had a new 4 litre Dutch oven delivered on Saturday.  That was good timing.

You know the saying, “measure twice, cut once”, well that also applies to recipes: READ TWICE. I only used 180 mls of water! Wondered why it was so dry 😂 After 39 mins into first rise, I realized my error and punched dough down and slowly incorporated more water. It’s back rising (hopefully!). And your instructions are so beautifully clear!! Duh!
  • I have baked bread off and on for years however I have learned a couple things in this video. First dragging the dough on the work bench to firm up the exterior of the ball of dough. Second the variety of baking vessels other than cast iron. Large cast iron Dutch Ovens that appear heavier with each passing year for me as a smaller sized senior woman.

I've been making my own bread for a few years. I really like your technique of kneading and tightening. thank you for sharing that.
  • @jerryoliver5181
"Tightening the skin of the dough". What a cool technique i have completely missed! Thanks again, John.
