A dark spirit discovers a method of becoming intact, and part of a possessed, twisted, robotic tribe.

In this animated short film, Brittle glass characters are divided into two sides: the broken and the intact. The spirits that dwell within are either pure or rotten. The broken remain on their side, to waste away into shattered bits. But the shards have a healing property, a process exploited by an ambitious dark soul who desires to be whole. But it is better to be broken and pure, than be intact and possessed. Once deprived of his glass body, the dark soul timidly rises, twisting upward, but is soon ripped down violently, and consumed mercilessly by the unbroken.

Shortened:
The broken will slowly decay, wasting away into shattered bits. But the shards have a healing property, a process exploited by an ambitious dark soul who desires to be whole.

Directors note:
For some reason this film evolved the way it did.. a bit creepy and twisted, but meaningful nonetheless. In many ways this animation reflects my belief that evil is often found in what we perceive as beauty or perfection, and conversely, goodness is found in what we dismiss as "broken" or unworthy. It's interesting to note that many Catholic Saints were broken or misled prior to conversion. Regardless of the meaning that viewers glean from this animation, I truly hope you enjoy it, and please share as much as possible. Huge thanks to my supporters both on Patreon and the members on Youtube.

My interpretation of this video would be about the different social status in the world; The brokens live in suffering due to their kindness, because the "smiley"s are taking advantage of it in order to reach this state bliss they seem to be in. However, since selfishness is what brought them to this point, the smileys aren't hesitant in bringing down those weaker than them, even those of their own. As they say: "The bigger they are, the harder they fall" The other way I'd interpret the ending is it's showing how the rich and selfish will never be remembered in a good light. In any case, this is some very good wordless writing. It reminds me of the dilemma where you choose to either live in an immortal world of constant agony where every day, one random person gets to forever leave for a world of bliss, or live in an immortal world of constant bliss where every day, one person is sent into eternal suffering.

Love how the rude glass guys soil didn't escape when being devoured Despite the fact that earlier the bird that got devoured managed to escape Pretty sure the soul of the dude that first died was like: "Now we're even"
  • "No good deed goes unpunished." Is how it feels at times. Some people give and help out of the goodness of their hearts, but they must be wary of those who take advantage of their kindness. The state of their souls also are symbolic: The one that died broken and miserable, but was kind, had a clean, unbroken looking spirit, but the selfish one that was whole again, had a dirty, patchwork looking spirit that was then devoured by the other "happy" looking ones. There is no escape when you cross "the line" to be happy by betraying others.
  • Man, the only thing I got from this is that one kind of person that's as low and as broken as you are and when you take the chance in helping them, they take advantage of it and hurt you in process, not caring that you helped them. Everything about this was so well done for the smiling glasses. The clicking and robotic movements, the lifelessness, the abnormal smiles, 10/10 worth the wait and was super well done. Beyond excellent job.

A strange detail is how the corrupted feel… robotic. From the lifeless grins, to the mechanical ticking when said grins contort, it just makes the unbroken seem soulless. Also, I noticed that one unbroken being held together by tape, presumably avoiding the gluttony of their peers.
  • I seriously used to believe the white bird is the protagonist of the show. I even cried out so hard when it almost got killed. But the best thing is the bird is actually the best side by presenting the true reason of being “alive”.

Always appreciate not only the animation but the great sound design! Fantastic work as usual
  • As good as always. Loved the balance between horror and suspense, definitely worthy for the glass vessels universe. I also love the bird, such a simple character yet it speaks volumes for the story. Keep up the wonderful work Patrick!
