If Windows 10 won't start up properly, one way to fix it is to reset Windows.

Resetting Windows involves putting the computer back to 'new', and is also called a factory reset, or reinstalling Windows.

When you reset Windows 10, you get to decide whether you want to keep your files, or remove them. However, your programs and settings, and possibly your locally stored emails, will be erased when you reset Windows 10.

In this video, I show you two methods to reset Windows 10 on a computer that won't start up.

#windows10 #win10

I don’t know what I would do without your guidance. You truly explain step by step with all the options! Thank you, I will be recommending this channel to my friends 😊🙏
  • Thanks Dave. You explained the troubleshooting exactly the way it should be done and most important, it works! I could re-install Windows 10 from USB without losing any data. Thanks again for informing the exact folder where data is moved. That gave me confidence to go ahead and re-install. You are simply brilliant! Keep up the good work. I have subscribed!
  • Never thought my Saturday would consist of reinstalling windows but here we are. Thanks for all the help, you are a life saver
  • As someone who had this issue since 2017, I can legitimacy say that this worked 100% for me. Thank you so much! I bought a mac because I was so tired of Windows. I have been tying for years ways to salvage my old computer just to see what I had saved on there. You're a life saver, thanks again!
  • Hi Dave, thank you so much for this clear and precise video tutorial. I'm so happy that I was able to fix my laptop without going to a computer repair shop and spend money.Kudos to you!

this video is so well done compared to dozens of other ones I watched lol. thank you so much. I'm actually trying this with win7 so I don't have to reset my files too but if it doesn't work it's ok, I did back them up, and then maybe I try installing win10 finally. anyway it's the only video I found where it's not mandatory to delete your old files, thank you again for making such an organized and clear video
  • You ARE the best! Clear, easy to follow and most importantly ... it works.

Thanks Dave; worked like a champ. Was contemplating a new laptop but you saved me $535. You gave simple, easy to follow instructions that worked just as advertised. I'm happy to subscribe and follow your channel.
  • Several years later and your video is still helping people haha, thank you!
  • Dear Dave, I know I'm late to this party! But I want you to know that I followed this video to get my downed 2014 Dell laptop to fire up. I used the Windows 10 flash drive method you mentioned, and it WORKED TO PERFECTION! THANK YOU! I was already looking on eBay to buy another laptop to replace my old one, but your method completely resurrected it! You are the BEST! THANK YOU AGAIN!
  • Thank you Dave. I followed your instructions which were very clear and I was able to reinstall windows from a usb stick. Keep up the good work.
  • Thank you so much for the help. I knew this was what I had to do, but I was a little nervous about doing it AND possibly losing my files. Your step by step instructions really helped. I'm back up and running and all files were right where you said they would be. In some cases steps like entering the Windows Home or Professional version were not asked, plus the screen where you have to by pass the product key was not requested as well. I just figured newer versions of this task had been streamlined. In one case the install challenged the largest partition I had selected based on your recommendation. I thought nope, I'm sticking with Dave's instructions because you got me this far. Many thanks again, your videos are brilliant and sincerely appreciated. I subscribed and clicked the notification bell.
  • Thanks a million. I can now sign on to my laptop. The windows 10 USB help a lot. I was about to trash this laptop. Now it's like a brand new one. Thanks again?!
  • After spending couple of days trying this and that, I found this video. Great guide. I was ready to trash my laptop, which is absolutely working well now. Thanks Dave!
  • Thanks Dave, you saved my life (and all my business files) with you tutorial. I am a user with no knowledge at all about computer systems and you made it so easy to follow. Thanks again,
  • @slowery43
Thank you so much for your tutorial here it worked like a charm. I had tried scan disking, system restore check disk, reset, pretty much everything to no avail to revive a 3 day old computer.. really appreciate your work.
  • Thank you so much. You're a life saver. This has to be the easiest to follow instruction video I've ever watched, IT or otherwise. Thanks again
  • @rushi7312
Great video. I explained by text to a friend how to do the second method you showed, but he was fairly confused. I'm pretty sure this video will help him greatly :D
  • I can't thank you enough. I have been without my desktop for weeks and have tried every remedy on the internet and before giving up and selling my soul to have a tech come out, I gave it one more shot and came across this and it was the same remedy as twice others but this was more precise and the difference was in the complete directions. Thank you so much!
  • Thank you for sorting out my problem - I was quoted £50 - £100 for someone to fix my laptop, but he thought it was too old to fix -3.5 yrs old, so didn't think it worthwhile. I followed your instructions, and fixed it, and managed to save all my files. Thanks again
