The GX85 and Pan/Leica 15mm f1.7 lens is a killer combo. BTW, the GX80/85 is great for shooting video.

It's my go to camera (the only digital one I have) for street photography. The looks of the camera really makes you wanna go take pictures. Imagine an updated version of the GX85, that would be awesome. Great video about my favorite camera 😊

This camera is an underrated gem. Great to see it getting more and more love.

GX85 was one of my 1st m43 cameras and it’s one of the only ones I’ve kept over the years. Portability, features, ease of use, speed etc. One of the most slept on cameras ever tbh 👌🏼
  • I have a GX80, originally with the Lumix 20mm f1.7 but as you say, autofocus is slow. I swapped the lens for the Olympus 17mm f1.8 lens which also has a manual focus clutch meaning no searching menus to switch to manual focus via camera menus; these 2 are made for each other.

I have this amazing camera GX-80 as “my first priority” for short trips and it always go together with my G9 when I travel for a longer period of time. The beauty of combining all the lenses between these two models is unbeatable.

Love it George. Colors on Panny are my favorite, actually! I am 10 steps away from selling 3/4 of my Fujifilm gear because I have consistently turned to my GX9 with the 15mm 1.7 everywhere and the GM5 with the 14mm f/2.5 on sunny days. Your shots are great and we have a similar style. Always enjoy your videos!

Of all of the YT Photogs. You by far have a One of the Best Eye for Comp. n Subject Awareness !!! Your Photos are Really Great :) :) :)
  • This is a good camera, but also one that it took me the longest to warm up to - years in fact - than others. It is getting a lot of love now, but at the time seemed to sell badly (forever on sale), and I think it's good if people are aware of some of the limitations. I'm still discovering features inside it as I need them, even years later, so Lumix packed a lot in.

Love the photos and the colours. The Lumix GF1,2 and the GX series are so cool. Very sleek cameras and well built.

I love the way manufacturers come up with great UX ideas for shooting use cases. I feel a bit spoiled by the Ricoh GRIII currently. The Zone Focus priority mode is game changing. I kind of sit at 2.5m 90% of the time swapping between f4.5 and f6.3 if I want back to infinity in focus, then the camera takes care of the rest. I occasionally will roll the dial to focus at 3.5m or 5m also if it really is pretty far. This is something I'd love to see other brands tackle and put their own spin on. Especially as focus by wire is typically inprecise and the digital distance scale is rather unhelpful most of the time. I am curious about that that tilt EVF. I rarely use an EVF because I personally find eye level to usually be the most boring angle for a POV. So this could be something that changes my mind.

Well done great video, really enjoy your content. I love my GX7Mk2 (GX85), and have been delighted with the image quality using Zuiko 17mm 1.8 , Zuiko 40mm 1.8 and Lumix 25mm 1.7 lenses. Features I really like are the back button focus / image stabilisation as well as the low key appearance.

The Pen-f with the 20mm Pana Pancake. As well as being great with the colour wheel, it looks sublime. A jewel that still has no equivalent today.
  • @earlfenwick
Heck yeah it's slow. I have one that I use on my EM5. The 40mm equiv. 27mm Fujinon that I use on my XE-4 is similarly clunky. I regret selling my GX-9 and may backtrack and get another or one of these. I love the form factor and style. For an artistically inclined camera, these really do check all the boxes as they say. Love your videos!
  • @Kalua85
The 20mm 1.7 is notoriously slow, but that's not the fault of the camera. I think the 20mm is better used, as you would with a Ricoh GR and do spot focusing. Like if you want to take street photos 5m in front of you on like f5.6 and keep it there until you change to another focus zone. With my other m43 and ff Lumix cameras I wanted a everyday carry and wanted a cheap camera. Got the original Lumix GX7, with the 14mm. It's snappy and I absolutely love shooting it. The cmos sensor is grainy As F over iso 800, but I bought it for 4x6 prints, and it has so much character. Love it! 🥳

I’d just like to add that there are many alternative MFT lenses suitable for street photography, all of which focus faster than the 20/1.7. I still love it though.
  • I have the GX80 and the GM1. The interchangeable lenses makes them so versatile. I bought the gx80 to upgrade the gm1 but I still use the gm1 the most.
  • What we really need is a proper update to this, instead of what Panasonic appears to be moving towards.
  • @katesavage2001
The GX 85 was my first MFT and it is a fun camera to use.
