Think you know the Matrix? Weren't even born when the first Matrix movie came out? Either way, you probably know this world-is-a-computer-simulation sci-fi series by its slo-mo bullets, screens full of green text, and a whole lot of Keanu Reeves making his "serious face." What you might NOT know about the Matrix is that the main character, Neo, is not actually the savior of the world and acts is actually just a pawn throughout the entire series meant to throw off you and almost everyone else in the movie. But that begs the question: If Neo isn't the ONE, who IS?

You want to hear something truly mind blowing? It took me over 10 years to realized 'Neo' is 'One' rearranged. YES! Someone that fucking oblivious ACTUALLY exists.

Neo is "the 1" and Smith is "the 0" - they must coexist, like good and evil

I really like all the comments saying that Neo and Smith are BOTH the one, two sides of the equation, balancing each other out.
  • @Corghy
To be honest, I really want a movie about the first guy, that woke up from the Matrix.
  • @Artbug
Honestly... after that summary I finally understand what the series was about.

i like this theory because it states that neo isn’t the prophesied messiah, therefore, he’s just a natural hero who is driven solely by his own agency. it feels empowering to the everyday person more than a “destiny complex”
  • Trinity is not my lover She's just a girl that thinks that I am The One.
  • The Oracle said that Smith was a result of the equation trying to balance itself out. If x=x, and you add ONE to one side, then you must add ONE to other, balancing the equation. Both Neo and Smith are ONEs from either side of the equation. Edit: either that or a negative one on the same side of the equation.
  • Yes Neo wasn’t around when the 1st matrix was built that’s cause he’s a reincarnation of the previous anomalies before him. They say this in the 2nd film. Also what probably happened with Smith is that Neo imprinted some of his digital self when they first assimilated in the first movie thus making smith a second anomaly that needed correcting and when in the last movie, when Smith finally assimilates Neo, Neo was jacked through the source allowing the source to correct both anomalies in one go.

Smith was able to think for himself, hence the ability to function and strategise without the ear-piece in. His ability to replicate himself is simply his ability, as an agent, to enter any other sentient being or program still connected to the Matrix. Neo just freed him from the agents' restriction to only enter one sentient being or program at a time. This finally gave him the power needed to bring the whole system to a standstill, so he didn't have to watch us squander a world created just for us, for the seventh time over. It would be like an NPC having to watch someone else take 100 years to finish a video game, only to have them restart every time they do finish. After watching this for 600 years, you would want to destroy the console too, even if you only lived in the game.

In the first movie, the Oracle implies that Neo isn't the One, but afterwards, she implies he is. Well, in the end of the first movie, Neo enters Smith. Whatever he did, it changed Smith. What would prevent Smith from changing Neo too? The way I see it, he "becomes the One" at that moment, alongside Smith. They merge. They're both necessary, they're both really just... One.
  • @gatisstrods1955
Neo was the One, and smith was -1 , after they both died, they balanced everything
  • I think its clear that the one is actually the two, a duality caused by Smith having the one’s code copied into his own. The oracle i think even said that one cannot exist without the other. The matrix could not reset until all pieces of the one’s code return to the source, which Neo figured out at the end. Neo rejected the duties of the one, but smith, running on the the one’s code fulfilled the eventuality of an unchecked anomaly running amok in the matrix.

Neo is the one, the Oracle told Morpheus that he will find the one But when Neo went to speak to the Oracle she told him you are not the one but you have the gift, maybe in your next life The Oracle told trinity that she will fall in love with a dead man Then Neo died and trinity fell in love, she kiss him and he resurrected and that was Neo's other life were he became the one So all the three prophecies were fullfil when Neo died
  • @mjsart7399
Morpheus: holding a blue pill and a red pill me: eats both "Now we wait..."
  • @eddydyno
Neo entered smith first.. Smith entered Neo second. They are both halves of the same.. ONE.
  • That’s what I kept telling everyone when the movies were first out. That Morpheus, trinity, switch, all those people could do incredible things like Neo could, I mean who TAUGHT neo how to jump across those buildings, that whole “free your mind” concept wasn’t limited to just neo, I think that if you convince yourself you can’t do something (ie: only neo can do this) such as fly, etc then you won’t be able to do it because you’re restricting your code yourself. Neo was hyped up and was told he was the savior and only he could do all these crazy things and he used his mind to create the circumstances in the matrix that he wanted. However if any of those others tried and believed they could break these limits, they’d be able to. Also I found it weird how they never used those ships to fight the machines at the end of the 3rd movie, what caused the council to send the ships away?
  • seriously a lady in the first movie freaking said: "He thinks you are the one." Neo"am I the one" lady"no"
