E4M8 is not counted towards the episode record, so ingame time is 2:59. The reason E4M8 is not included is because dos version does not display the time for the final map. Even though that is no longer relevant as sourceports can determine the time, the convention is still kept.

Description: Been nearly 5 years since I last did this category, figured I'd improve it a bit.
The route for E1M1-E1M7 and E1M1-E1M8 is identical for this episode.

Episode 4 is quite short, but definitely the most reset heavy of the 4 ultimate doom episodes.

E4M1: Getting yourself killed by your own rockets happens about 50% of the time on this level. I Decided I would have a go at the IL record which was at 23 seconds during attempts. Manged to get 22 seconds once, though 21 is possible. Didn't really look into skipping the rocket launcher or anything, so maybe there is some crazy route to go even lower. 25 seconds is ok, I don't get 23 seconds very often, so 24 would be quite a good time.

E4M2: Best time I had here was 20 seconds, I frequently get 21 seconds if everything goes well. Was a bit unfortunate with the cacodemons at the BFG, I was lucky to get the BFG at all and when I did there were just too many of them so I had to fire twice. Usually I just need to fire once and so 21 seconds is quite straightforward. Also missed a 100 cells here, but they aren't too important, it just means I skip a safety BFG on E4M5.

E4M3: Never had 8 seconds here, I fail this rocket jump like 60-70% of the time, so it's really annoying. I think 8 seconds might be easy if I rocket jump off the lost soul from the other side so I go straight into the exit. Some new strategy here is to fire 3 or 4 rocktets + BFG to clear out as much as possible by the exit, since a lot of failed attempts are simply because I get blocked after the rocket jump.

E4M4: Only attempt to get 37 seconds, so that's nice. Usually I'll always get 38 or 39 seconds here, as the level is very straightforward and not much can go wrong. Though I did waste quite a few attempts here to really dumb mistakes.

E4M5: Time loss here, not that big of a disaster, but unfortunately it had to happen in the record run. I think my best time here might have been a 28, usually I get 29-30 if every goes ok. New strategy here is to skip the plasma rifle, and instead use rockets to clear out the lost souls despite the bit of self damage I take from it. Part of the reason is because I frequently failed the jump across the gap when I picked it up, and so setting it up was much easier this way.

E4M6: A dream come true to see the cyberdemon go down in 2 BFG's. 40 seconds is my best time on this level, as I didn't exactly have many attempts get past him, heh. The start was a bit slow, but otherwise decent and with the perfect cyberdemon kill this time is amazing. I had one attempt fail because I got sniped by a shotgunner when I tried to jump into the last teleporter when I was on an even better pace with better health. Often I will die before I even reach the cyberdemon as well, so it's a difficult level.

E4M7: I'll always get 13 seconds here unless something goes wrong. I grab the invisibility because if I get hit then I will very likely fail the last jump and if so the run is over. So it all comes down to luck in the end.

E4M8: Very unlikely to have enough health at the start to actually skip the secret 3x25% health at the start, so that awas really nice. Unfortunately I missed the mega armor by running around it somehow, not too bad of a time loss though, less than what I gained from skipping the health at the start anyhow. Rocket jump to clear the gap saves a lot of time over my 5 year old runs E4M8 time.

Maybe I'll finally get around to completing a RTA run of ultimate doom in under 20 minutes soon enough.

Just when I thought this guy couldn't get any more superhuman, he rocket-jumps from a lost soul in an episode-long speedrun.
