Can Putin's diplomacy help him counter Western isolation? | Inside Story

Published 2024-06-21
Russia's President Vladimir Putin has wrapped up a two-nation Asia tour on a high. It was the first time in 24 years he'd set foot in North Korea and left Pyongyang with a new defence pact to show for it. His two-day visit to Vietnam yielded several new trade agreements with the manufacturing hub. Putin's latest state visits seem to be an attempt to bolster support amid increasing isolation over his war in Ukraine. But what do these countries stand to gain from closer ties with Moscow? And how is Washington reacting?

Presenter: Laura Kyle

  • What about the US, England and France, and Israel, should they be in the terrorist list? These countries have caused a lot of damage in the world too!
  • It annoys me when Aljazeera keep on saying Russia is "Increasingly isolated". Russia can't, and has never been isolated. Russia is only partially isolated in the west, which is EU and US, Canada, Japan and Australia. These are not more than 50 states, if not less compared to more than 160 other countries in the world.
  • Putin is not isolated. Western countries is only 20% in the world population
  • @Kogitesolar
PUTIN wasn't isolated in Asia and Africa, this two continents account for more than half of world population. How many countries actually sanctioned Russia??, India alone is bigger than the entire west.
  • Why does the West think the world is only 32 countries. Russia has options and Asia, Africa and South America are big continents.
  • @Zara-no3sq
Excuse me, From all I have read Russian economy is more vibrant and better than every European country as well as USA. Their currency is stronger than before the sanctions. USA pays a trillion dollars a year on interest of their borrowing. The world is moving away from dollar, China dumped over 50 billion of USA bonds. Are these people on the panel have any expertises?? Seems unlikely
  • Western hypocrisy🔥🔥/Western Hegemony🔥🔥🔥💯💯💯
  • Since when did Al Jazeera become a western instrument? It’s quite obvious now
  • @seids1338
I think Beijing will warmly support the Russia, North Korea military pact as both countries are friends of China. The notion "Beijing will be concerned by this pact" is just a propaganda to create a rift among the eastern blocs. The reality on the ground is countries that are victims of US sanctions and pressures are grouping and strengthening their bonds at the same time they are expanding too. And the bloc they are forming is greater in population, bigger in economy, and strongly bonded. That is the major reason why sanctions on Russia are failed and Russia is still growing better than countries in the west. In addition, Russia is winning on the battle field.
  • Yeah, Al Jazeera, Putin is 'isolated'😂 "I'm a journalism!"
  • ''Russia is becoming increasingly isolated'' Meanwhile Russia:
  • @playerish
Isolating Russia? Are you crazy , Russia lies between Europe and Asia and Arctic sea. They have 11 different time zones. US and Canada only have 3 different time zones. Russia also produces lots lots of oil and gas and minerals. Only some crazy people to say Russia is isolated 😂🤣 Russia is not afghanistan or Yugoslavia or Iraq. US is messing with formidable country this time.
  • @bachoabdi2906
Who cares about economy when your own existing is threatened.
  • @shehuarc2964
Even Western media like aljazeera are now saying it as it should be, Russia was never Isolated, however western countries isolated themselves from the rest of the world, and they are now learning the hard way.
  • @rey1953
I think the U.S. would be happy if countries just adhered to the UN Charter and International law but it seems that too many countries feel it is just a "Western" construct and not something they want to abide by or take seriously. It does not help that the U.S. has also ignored international law when it was convenient. We are at a time of less order and more chaos and it will get worse before it gets better if world does not end first.
  • Of course, the diplomacy of President Mr. Putin is effective.President Mr. Putin has a very good relationship with all the countries of the world except the 32 countries of NATO.Therefore, there is no chance for President Mr. Putin to think isolated. He has already created a new world system with the rest of the countries. 🌎ПОБЕДА РОССИИ🌍
  • Enough is enough of USA and WEST all countries should stand and isolate America UK.
