He is the first ever Champion of Alola in the anime, so I'm sure he could beat Pokemon Sun. Can't wait for the video to start though, I'm really excited.

Okay, whether you agree or not, Ash DID own a Haunter. Although, he never caught one in Kanto. In Pokémon Journeys, Dialga and Palkia end up fighting (again), and as a result, Pokémon begin to devolve. This results in Ash's Dragonite turning into a Dratini, Ash's Pikachu becoming a Pichu, and Ash's Gengar becoming a Gastly. So, yes, Ash has owned a Haunter and a Gastly, but not the Kanto one.
