Nelson Fashogbon talks about addiction

Publicado 2023-09-16
Nelson talks about his personal battle with addiction, primarily his cannabis use. He discusses the dual role cannabis played in his life: a means to alleviate stress and to help with social situations.

Nelson describes the patterns of his cannabis use, including how it served as a tool to unwind after work and as a way to get through the day during periods of unemployment. However, this habit gradually led him into a cycle of isolation, distancing himself from family and friends who did not agree with his cannabis use.

He shares how his addiction impacted on his mental health. This included many admissions to a psychiatric hospital, triggered by depression and suicidal thoughts, exacerbated by his cannabis use. However doctors believed that his schizophrenic episodes might have manifested even without the influence of cannabis.

Nelson reflects on the transformative journey he embarked upon during a prolonged hospital stay from 2019 to 2022. During this time, he engaged in intensive psychological and substance misuse work, which was an important factor in his path to recovery.
