Reminds me of my husband and I 47 years ago. We raised our two children on our 60 acre farm. We had pigs, cows, chickens, duck, rabbits, and raised German Shepherd and Shih-Tzu's. It's been a great life. The best place to raise a family. It's tough at times, with many heart aches and many joys. Bless you both on this endeavor.

On your tomatoes save the skins and all the seeds. Dehydrated them and then grind into powder. When you need tomato paste just one tablespoon of powder to a few drops of water and poof you have paste.

Hello, Zach. Greetings from Arkansas. I recently came across your videos, and I am playing catchup. In doing so, I believe I may have found a problem with your chick feed. My calculations for protein are much lower than your 30%. I figure the protein is closer to 16%. If so, this would be catastrophic with young chicks; and, especially so with the finicky Cornish Cross birds. I suggest you double check your calculations. If you still get 30% protein, have someone with feed ration calculations experience look at your numbers. Your County Extension Office would probably be the quickest and easiest place to get help. Cheers, Y Shave

Pumpkins are the best thing to plant for your pigs. They love them and the seeds are a natural wormer.

20:17 Don't waste the blood. Use the turkey blood as high N fertilizer for the fruit trees in spring.

Wow, what a year! You accomplished soooo much and learned so much as well. Thank you for sharing your journey with us. Love your videos. Don't feel bad the first year we did Cornish cross and at about 7 weeks we lost 20 out of 25. We think it was a combination of overfeeding and high heat and humidity. We have down them a few more times and we often take them a little early rather than risk losing them.
  • You are inspiring! I know itโ€™s a lot more work and not as glamorous as these awesome videos make it seem but I also know itโ€™s probably so satisfying to live off off your land!

2023 was a very constructive and productive year for you and the homestead with the exception of a few set backs which are to be expected... You worked both hard and smart and learned a lot. Big respect. I hope 2024 is even better. Happy NY.
