A couple who were given the wrong baby by a hospital in El Salvador a year ago, have finally been allowed to travel home with the correct child. Rich Cushworth - who is British - and his wife, Mercedes - were only given a birth certificate for their son Moses a few days ago. They landed back home in Dallas, Texas this week where they have been speaking exclusively to our correspondent Matthew Price.

  • Those doctors gaslit her. If a mom says "this isn't my baby" a doctor's FIRST reaction should be to order a dna test, not try and convince her she is wrong.

They better sue the shit out of that hospital. That’s all.

It’s SO disgusting, unprofessional and irritating how often some medical “professionals” outright dismiss a mother’s questions and concerns.

As a nurse - AS SOON - as a patient tells me something is 'off' I double & triple check... I have NEVER regretted the 'second guess' NEVER...

They should sue the shit out of that hospital!!!

The gaslighting this woman experienced is unacceptable. It’s never acceptable but in this case, it’s criminal.
  • A mother's instinct should always prevail. What precious and dedicated parents

Never underestimate the instincts of a mother people.
  • I feel all babies should have a DNA test done when they leave hospital to avoid a huge mistake like this.

These poor parents. Lost their initial bonding with their baby. I hope the hospital gets sued big time for such an emotional roller coaster

I hate when doctors don't listen to their patients' concerns and even try to label them as crazy or doped up instead trying to go out of their way and address/resolve patients concerns immediately. In this case all they needed to say was "ok if you think this is not your baby lets do DNA test". Instead they try to tell her we don't make mistakes like that you were on meds who knows what you saw. Unbelievable 🙄

The fact that her first thought wasn’t her biological baby, but this baby that she has been raising and falling in love with... that’s a real mother right there. Mourning a baby that wasn’t hers ☹️
  • I had the same thing happen to me with my first child. However, I was relentless saying this was not my baby. They eventually gave me my real baby.
  • I believe the hospital should be held to account. This must be heartbreaking for parents having to go through this. That couple were lucky but what about the ones lost forever, never knowing they were switched. Something needs to be put in place to prevent this from happening or massive compensation should be given to the families as a way to stop this from repeating. Good luck to the family.

She's better at telling stories than people on the news usually are.

I’d sue the *uck out of that hospital. The emotional trauma caused to the mothers especially and there’s no doubt to the baby boys. Yes even at 3 months. Incompetent staff

What a beautiful, tenderhearted couple. I hope and pray that their family stays together for their lifetimes.
