What I love about No Doubt is that Gwen and the guitarist were in a serious relationship when they started the band, but it wasn't until after they broke up and she started writing songs about their split (like this) that the band really took off. Must have been uncomfortable at times, for sure, performing heartbreak songs alongside the person who inspired them. Edit: 5 years and 120 replies later, and people are still correcting me that it was the bassist.

Boy I broke my wife’s heart and this song always reminds me of that time her endless sobbing and not being able to heal her broken heart. Eventually I grew up, it’s been almost 20 years since I made myself and her a promise I would be the best I could be for her everyday. I’m still here for her and this song is so freaking powerful and l love her more than anything.

I've ended a short but intense, confusing relationship 2 days ago (01/09/23) and I feel so embraced by this song. I told the guy during our last phone call, "if you really decide it's over for us, please don't text me about it, I'll get it from your silence and leave you alone". Welp, this was Friday night, now it's Sunday morning and I still haven't got a text. I guess it's really over. Last night I went to a pub with my friend in a failed attempt to drink the overwhelmingness away and that was when I heard this song fully for the first time. Of course it made me feel no better but I feel like I can relate so much to the lyrics right now. "Don't speak, I know just what you're saying, don't tell me 'cause it hurts". It does hurt, but I learned so much from it (even from all the lies and secrets from both parts). A canon event that cannot be interfered, as people say. I don't even know why I'm writing this. I used to have this tradition of leaving comments under Youtube videos just so I could check them years later and remember what I was feeling/going through at the time, like a time capsule. I hope I can re-read this comment in a couple years and celebrate that I'm in a better place, mentally and physically. My English is not perfect right now as I decided to not check for mistakes on Google Translator, I'm writing all these things from my heart.
