  • I always like to chamfer the mating side of a nut too . Keeps from galling up the surface of what it is retaining . Nice job , thanks for sharing.

Gday Aaron, with some of the old engines I’ve stuffed around with over the years, the heads of the bolts were longer then what we get today, the one you made looks about right, the nuts look good as well, I brought an import carbide insert threading tool and there’s nothing wrong with it, way better then HSS, all the best with the new job to, I’ll give you a call this week mate, Cheers
  • Hi Aaron, Good video... Look like Wayne is keeping you busy, which I am sure is a good thing... I hope the new job is going well. Take lots of care. Paul,,

Sorry to hear about your brother. Wish you the best in your new job!

Great video Aron ☺️ But the 27.5° should be from the compound being perpendicular to the part and not parallel to the bed (which is the 0 mark on yours) 😁

Those are some big bolts! I like the look of the chamfer on both sides, myself. And I agree, he should be using a nice thick washer. I've just started threading a bit here and there. Tried both HSS and carbide and I prefer the simplicity of the carbide. Although, in the long run, it'll end up costing me more.

Nicely done buddy, look bought not made (in a good way) love some screw cutting, and yes carbide would be easier, but hss is far far more versatile, and will last many years too
  • @BundyBearsShed
Good stuff again I would be fussy with the small details on the bolts as well as a restoration is just that copying exactly how it was. Enjoying the video.

G'day Aaron, sorry for your loss and good luck with the new job. The nuts, well I suppose it went from vintage to modern when you chamfered the other side, would the nut be too thin for vintage if you faced off one side? Cheers Peter

Hi Aaron nice job doing the screw cutting. I use Whitworth most of the time as I've scavenged loads of nuts and bolts in the past lol. Metric is far easier to buy nowadays if needed though. Are you going to blacken the finished ones? Tony
