Although having a lightsaber does not make one a Jedi, the Lightsaber is a crucial part of a Padawan’s journey towards becoming a master. Across the galaxy, the Jedi, Sith and other force wielding groups use lightsabers of a range range of colours... But what do these colours mean? Well I’m going to break down every single known lightsaber Color in Canon and exactly what they tell you about the user. So hit that Red Subscribe button to purify it and let’s get into it.

A lightsaber blade’s colour emanates from the kyber crystal inside of it’s hilt. This is the heart of a lightsaber and it’s colour is determined the moment the user harvests it from its resting place. So in essence, a lightsaber’s color reveals something about it’s wielder and their personality.

So that leads us to *number 1. Blue Lightsabers.*

Blue lightsabers are the most common seen among members of the Jedi order during the time of the Clone Wars. Blue lightsabers are used by Jedi Guardians, who prefer to focus on lightsaber combat and honing their aggressive negotiation skills. Jedi Guardians are a mirror to Sith Warriors from many millenia ago and they were seen as the Order’s representatives to the rest of the Galaxy, using combat to protect those in need. Guardians spent most of their time honing their martial arts skills and on peacekeeping missions in violent locations. Some prominent examples of Jedi Guardians are Anakin Skywalker, Count Dooku when he was still a Jedi and even Ki-Adi Mundi.

*Number 2. Green Lightsabers*

Green lightsabers were usually wielded by Jedi Consulars. If a Jedi who was about to harvest his kyber crystal was more in tune with the cosmic force than the living force, he would be granted a green lightsaber crystal.

  • Let's face it, purple means ' my name is Samuel L Jackson, and I want my own unique color so I can pick myself out on screen!'
  • @Marcha-
My interpretation for Orange is that it is sort of like purple. It’s a mix of yellow and red. A sentinel who is not afraid to tap into the dark side for the sake of the good.
  • I like how he explained mace windu’s crystal and how he wasn’t evil but used the dark side, I feel like he would have been a perfect master for anakin and if they had a better relationship things would have been different. Appreciate all the love honestly didn’t expect this to get much attention🙏

It was originally portrayed as only blue and red. But when Luke's blue lightsaber wasn't showing up for the Sarlacc, they made a green one. Ofc they patched these sorts of things in the story but it's just fascinating to me that something so simple, such as the color not showing up in film, became a story arc for all Jedi.
  • I played Fallen Order with the orange saber and it’s just felt right ever since. I’d be very happy with an orange saber
  • It's so interesting to me how advanced the symbolism for these colors has become. They originally just picked colors, right? There's the famous story about why Luke's saber changed to green. They were filming in a real desert and the blue didn't show up very well, so they made it green. But it's really cool how it's expanded over the years and become so much more than just that.
  • I'd probably want a green saber. Always struck me as odd that more jedi didn't use the force more often during combat.

Now a year later, Baylan in Ahsoka has an orange saber. This makes me really love your theory that the orange is someone who tried to turn it red but failed. This seems spot on for what we know if his character this far (only 5 episodes in).
  • I like the theory that the orange colored lightsaber is due to a failed bleed. The user pours enough hate to start a bleed, but not enough to cause it to become fully red
  • They better not mess with the Darksaber. It staying black makes way more sense, since black is the color of Justice for Mandalorians, something that would fit a Mandalorian Jedi perfectly.
  • The saddest part of customizing my lightsaber in KOTOR was finding out it was entirely cosmetic. I'd anticipated saber choice having long-term, irreversible effects on my force development over the course of the game, and instead I got "Ooh, yellow matches my outfit today!"
  • I like the idea that the magenta reveals a jedi of the light side that doesn’t shy away from passion and emotion but can still move through these feelings and ultimately feel happiness in them and the force. It wouldn’t work under the current order obviously bc they wouldn’t approve of such attachments, but an independent jedi could def have a pink blade if we’re using this connection
  • I love how all the initial color variations came about because of plain and simple visual appeal, (green for Luke because it was easier to see against the blue sky background. Purple for Mace, because Sam just liked purple) then when fans screamed for there to be some kind of meaning the writers were all like “shit I guess we have to make something up now”
  • I always loved Mace Windu's lightsaber simply because it was a rare color, and Mace was a freaking badass. Now that I know the meaning behind it, I love it even more.

My personal thoughts on the orange saber is that it would be like a mix between yellow and red, being able to use the dark side for good while also mixing the force and lightsaber combat together. I'd see it as the ultimate balance and would immediately respect any wielder of the blade, but its only a theory.
  • In my opinion, the orange sabre means a pure balance between the light and the dark sides of the force. While purple uses switch between light and dark, orange users maintain. A constant balance. That is why plo koon usea them in legends. He uses a similar force technique to force lightning and always seems to make his own decisions. Cal's pain must have made him realize this balance within him.
  • My interpretation of the meaning behind the orange saber is that its wielder was put through extreme physical and/or mental trauma, but still managed to remain on the Light Side. Orange lightsaber wielders can be seen as having significant mental fortitude, since they experienced an incredible amount of suffering but still refused to turn to the Dark Side. Cal Kestis, having survived Order 66 as a youngling and being forced into hiding, would obviously be a wielder of an orange saber.
  • I felt more satisfied using green than blue in Fallen Order. It made sense because Cal was trying to reconnect with the force and got more and more in tuned with his force powers and abilities as the story progressed.
  • The orange light saber could mean the same as Mace windus but different, blue+red=purple so that is the type of jedi who focuses on lightsaber combat but isn't afraid to tap into the dark side if needed. Yellow+red=orange so maybe it's a jedi sentinel who isn't afraid to tap into the dark side if needed.
