Critiquing The Foo Fighters Properly This Time!

Published 2022-01-12
This is part two of my attempt to dissect the #FooFighters and their songwriting success! This is a much more theoretical video understanding how their song #WaitingOnAWar is written.
What do you think? Am I right or very wrong?

When you say, "I don't listen to the Foo Fighters", I am reminded of Hansel in Zoolander when he says, "Sting would be another person who's a hero. The music he's created over the years, I don't really listen to it, but the fact that he's making it, I respect that."
  • Ah Justin... You bring an awful lot of joy to my days. Thank you for setting up this channel :-)
  • @mikedefleopard
The Big Star song that sounds most similar is Thirteen. Same exact melody. “Won’t you let me walk you home from school”
  • Really love the way you describe chords, harmonies and music in general… I can really relate to those moments, how they make you feel and how can they be transfered to music… keep up the good work my friend !!!
  • @psykolikwid
As always, thank you so much for posting! I really admire your deep knowledge of music theory, bands and most of all, the presentation of information that’s easy to understand to everyday people. Cheers!
  • @TheAaron3dg
This series/channel is stunning! Amazing to see Justin sharing his vast songwriting knowledge
  • @BretHiggins
The pinky extension while drinking was near perfect and utterly dad rock. Approved. (quietly hoping you'll work with Pat Finnerty again soon, btw.)
  • @clairebear9517
I'm learning so much from this channel and already found a bunch of new bands to listen to. I often find it boring and too technical when you see those greatest album type shows and they break down the songs but Justin is so engaging, knowledgeable and talented and I can't get enough!
  • @Jeebizz101
I cant stop watching your channel man, loving the content, keep at it!
  • Love your channel brother. Been listening since Permission to Land. Love to see how fast your channel grows. Also, Dinner Lady Arms is the most underrated song ever.
  • It's this encyclopaedic musical knowledge and ability to dissect a charting rock behemoth that makes me appreciate Grace's Amazing Machines even more! Kudos to you sir.

After the day I have just had it’s reassuring to listen to someone competent who knows what he’s talking about. This channel is that dozens of minutes of daily hope.
  • @godzillamike
Hey Justin ... love your channel, thank you so much for dropping the "swervedriver" reference .. it made me go and put Mezcal head on nice and loud and just absorb it .. i saw that tour way back when. keep up the good work.

I💖your lovely voice and your explanations. You're so sweet in how you give music theory to the masses.
  • @soundssimple1
Much like the chords shapes ( finger rooted on the D ) when doing the acoustic version of Times Like These. Top stuff Justin
  • @jimszikk775
Justin, it would be really fun if you made a video where you talk about The Ark and Ola Salo! I really enjoy your videos and I also like your philosophy and how you think around different artists and tunes.
  • @smpearce22
Hi Justin. What a great forum for you. I’ve been with you since the ‘old days’ waaaay back in the naughties…so it’s really nice to get to see you, your talent and your views laid bare and as a person outside of all the ‘glam’ ;-) I’ve really enjoyed watching. Great job. Please keep it up?! :-)
  • @chrishicks8502
Man I've been playing guitar for 15years, and I have always been ashamed I didn't know theory. Watching you has made me start learning theory, and OMG it has been eye opening. Wish I would have done it sooner. Oh well, thanks for the content Justin!.
  • Quality analysis JH, as ever. Do Big Star next / soon (definitely shades of ‘Thirteen’ here) and definitely get into The Fannies (especially Gerard’s lovely bass - maybe something on melodic bass would be good).
