  • “And his name was Matt Turk” had me believing in a speedrunning cinematic universe
  • @onlysmiles4949
"There was just one problem: It had been years since someone with a funny username had set a record" Truly the highest priority
  • @LucasIsHereYT
Rules of Japanese speedrunning: 1. Scream like you're being brutally murdered if you get a record 2. Be uncannily fast
  • @Sam_596
It's interesting how SM64 is both carefully, thoughtfully designed and also held together with string and prayer
  • @TheFoxClaws
Summoning salt has built such an speedrunner’s video doc universe that Matt Turk appearing at anytime is believable even if it doesn’t make sense
  • @atlasl0
Man Matt Turk was so wild, I actually believe you when you said he just randomly showed up and snatched sub 16
  • @wesker919
His reaction at the very end was perfect. "Wow. Alright. Cool. Sweet."
  • @Allenryan819
for alll those that are curious the as of 12/20/22 the all time 16 star record is held by suigi with 14m/41s/380ms
  • @Aelfraed26
"Just kidding. It obviously wasn't Matt Turk." "It was AndrewG"
  • @MYG
A closely kept secret in speedrunning is that every top runner is just Matt Turk in disguise
  • @leynin9286
For anyone curious, current WR is 14:35:500 by Suigi which is a staggering 15 seconds faster than 2nd place (Slipperynip)
  • @swfcocs1
It's a clear sign of a skilled storyteller when salt can make these documentaries so fascinating to viewers like myself who haven't played videogames since they were kids and in my case have never speed run games . It's one thing to appeal to a core audience but very much another to appeal to such a wide viewership, kudos to salt...
  • @tylerdill6761
Any time Summoning Salt says the words “Matt” and “Turk” together, it doesn’t matter what else he says, I will be on the edge of my seat ready to believe anything he tells me
  • @gulermo
    - is named SlipperyNip - gets back to speedrunning the game and gets the new world record - only reaction is "wow....alright, cool :)" massive chad
  • @Thug_Nose
48:27 I know it’s heartbreaking to lose a world record like that, but I couldn’t help but laugh uncontrollably when salt cut the music when Weegee jumped the wrong way lmao
  • @bluemoon4891
My guy takes speedrunning, and turns it into an emotional movie. There is so much effort put in these videos.
  • As a history major and history enthusiast I looove that you explain your sources and why some sources were included and why others were not. Then also addressing the limitations of various sources (this run had no video, this run we know happened because this community spoke of the live stream, etc) Like this is really good historical theory
