  • Thanks for sharing this. I also am restoring a Spider and have just done my steering wheel, but I cheated and had a wood shop fill in the cracks. Small tip on removing the old varnish - using a scrapper blade you can quickly thin down the varnish, then it will crack off when it is thin enough, without any damage to the wood. Keep up the good work

I have a '75 Spider with a rough looking wood steering wheel. This was very helpful.
  • Ambitious project - great rescue! I have just got an '82 Spider 2000 - fortunately only minor blemishes. Thanks for the very informative video.

Fantastic! so well informed and so excited that beautiful steering wheel belongs to me!! Thank you for working so hard on this amazing restoration.
  • Thanks for sharing this! I am restoring a teak wood steering wheel from a 65 Corvette. It was not any where near as bad as yours but I learned some important things from your video.

This is the same steering wheel that my 1975 , 2000 GTV has. Mine has some cracks on the wood, but nowhere near as bad as this one. The steering wheel is made by HELLEBORE,a company that makes many other steering wheels for Alfa Romeo in the sixties and seventies. Excellent restoration, with a really good result of a very badly damaged steering wheel.

looks fantastic, I plan to do something similar (hopefully less work though) on my Ford Mustang steering wheel.

The horn buttons have white plastic grommets that snap-in.
