Washington is the last place I called home before moving into my SUV full-time, and it was on these mountain trails and forest roads that I fell in love with living out of my vehicle and backpacking every other night until the rain or snow forced me south to warmer weather. Lately, I’ve been based around Mount Baker. Camping, hiking, and getting lost on mountain trails. If you’ve ever wondered what the Washington backcountry is like, here’s a glimpse into that world. Thanks for being here ♡

Hey :) I’m Christian Schaffer, and I’ve lived on the road full-time since May 2018. This journey began in 2013 when I left the corporate world to build my career as an outdoor adventure & travel photographer. As a semi-minimalist, I eventually decided to donate/sell most of my belongings and move into my 4x4 Nissan Xterra. After 14 months of SUV living and falling madly in love with the open road - I bought a van and hired a team to build it out. Van life enables me to experience and document the beauty of our natural world on a whole new level, all while having my home and office nearby. My hope is that by sharing my own personal highs and lows along this (sometimes) wild journey, you might be inspired to hit the road or spend more time outdoors. Maybe one day I'll see you out on that open road 🚐

*My van is a 2019 Ram ProMaster 1500 High Roof, 136" WB with 31K miles*

Wow at the stunning scenery and the fantastic videography! Thank You for sharing your experiences. It's a lot of work to live out of a vehicle and travel to remote places. Thank You for your efforts. Watching your videos takes me to places i would never get to visit on my own. Stay Safe, keep posting and I'll keep watching 🙏👍

Ditto Tony! I'm 64 and have vision issues as well as hearing issues. I too live again through your videos, Christian, and hope you never stop! When I was your age I used to hike and camp and backpack too. It feels so good the watch you do what I used to do! Thanks and Love to you!

I LOVE all your videos Christian! I'm a full-time freelance photographer based in London. And I REALLY want to go off-grid. I'm pushing now online to be able to don't rely on clients as much, get a van, and prepare it as beautifully as you did. So jealous of all those hikes you do! 😍Love your channel! Big love!
