Got throttle lag? Put the punch back in your pedal.

In this DIY and How-To video, we'll Show you how to install the Sprint Booster throttle converter. The Sprint Booster power converter for BMW is an easy-to-install, electronic device that eliminates the delay in pedal response common in cars with Electronic Throttle Control (ETC, a.k.a. "drive by wire"). It continuously measures the digital signal being sent by the accelerator, modifies the signal and tells the engine management system to respond more quickly. You get crisp acceleration on tap, dramatically improving response time and your overall driving experience. (In other words, "Yee-haw!!!") It doesn't increase your car's horsepower -- it just make the car more responsive to your commands. You'll notice better off-the-line acceleration, faster 1/4-mile times, greater quickness when passing and easier on-hill starts. We tested it here at Bavarian Autosport and loved it! Apparently we're not alone. Here's what renowned automotive photographer and writer Klaus Schnitzer wrote to us after he installed a Sprint Booster in his 2004 325iT:

"... Very linear and more responsive than stock. This is how the feel should have been from the factory. The driving sensation is very similar to BMW M throttle settings, minus the power. It makes for more involved and fluid driving. The only problem is that I now want to go faster!"

The Sprint Booster comes with a switch you can mount on or near your dash. Leave the button alone to drive the car in stock mode; push it once for Level 1 (a smooth acceleration enhancement); push it again for Level 2 (an aggressive boost). One of the most noticeable performance upgrades you can do. No modifications or changes in fuel are required. Backed by a lifetime warranty. Installation takes about 10 minutes --

  • @liamsdebut There are two styles of throttle. The one in the video is the earlier style. The later style is secured by a small allen-head screw (5-mm as we recall), through the base and into the floor. Once the screw is removed, the throttle assembly is pushed up along the firewall to disengage a hook from a slot in the firewall.
  • Yes, the throttle feels more natural and responsive. No actual HP gains to the engine.
  • @waantit There is no gain in HP. The Sprint Booster re-maps the throttle signal to provide a smoother and more agressive throttle application.
  • henryhank - Thanks to the Magnuson-Moos Act, a manufacturer cannot void a warranty due to an aftermarket part being installed. The dealer would have to prove that a specific repair was due directly to the installation of a non-BMW part in order to void the warranty work ON THIS ONE REPAIR ONLY. As far as the Sprint Booster goes, if you are worried about the dealer finding it and giving you a hard time, just remove it when you go to the dealer.

Do you have to turn the sprintbooster on every time you start the car or will it remember your previous setting? For instance, if I have it on "red" or something, when I turn the car off and then on, will it still be in "red"? 2008 528i

Interesting product. I have a bmw 645ci and on this model, the "sport" button desactive the throttle module and provide the 100% of the gaz. In what the Sprint booster can help in my case ? Regards,

What kinda affect does the sprinter booster has on fuel consuption?
  • @Johncarson9113
I have a 2004 BMW 325i sedan, will this exact process be the same steps I will have go through in order to install the sprint booster?
  • There is no inherent change in fuel economy with a Sprint Booster. However, if you drive more aggressively, you will see a change in fuel use due to this.
  • @Johncarson9113 Yes, the video was done on an E46 model, just like yours (3-series 99-05).
  • @henrychung851

is it bad to always have it on green or red? and is it bad to switch back and forth often or a lot?
