Today I'm trying out name brand art supplies versus the generic store brand art supplies. Can I guess which is which? We covered the logo and brands so I wouldnt know - a blind test to figure out which was the best one. Inspired by the expensive taste test series by Cosmopolitan! Can I tell the difference?

Is there a store brand or generic brand that you swear by?? Or a brand you like even more than their more expensive counterpart? Let me know! 👇

I had both Copic and Artist Loft markers. When new, they were the same basically, but then I had a point where all my things were in storage for a year. When I got them out, the Copics were good as new, and the Artist Loft were literally unusable. They got a crust on the nib. Similar thing happened with my watercolor paints. Cheap paints separated and refused to remix, and the fancy paints were just fine.

I think the difference between a expensive branded items and normal items is that on how they perform in long run.. For example, a painting with expensive paints probably will last for years without fading. But as someone who can't afford expensive art supplies, it's good to know that there are cheaper options which are good enough to start with.

I'd love to see you do this with watercolors and watercolor papers. This was so fun to watch!

We are huge proponents of artists benchmarking their supplies, whether famous brand or private label- it's the best way to really know whether you're getting the best value! We loved watching Chloe reveal the true performance of these products!

i think the difference with a lot of these are longevity of the supplies. a lot of the store brand paint markers and alcohol markers ive had have dried up extremely fast or the nibs started to rot over time, but my name brands (copic, posca, spectrum noir, etc etc) have lasted the test of time. i think its not that much of problem if you use your markers up consistently but if youre like me constantly using different mediums without a solid "use them up" consistency then the longevity of a product is something to consider before buying.
  • I'd love to see this with FiveBelow art supplies! I've used them quite a bit and I actually think they are pretty dang good, ESPECIALLY for their cheap price.

Chloe is such a big inspiration to me! She has influenced my art journey so much. Plus who doesn’t love her personality ♥

Blick Studio Brush Markers are my favorite store brand. They even sell nib replacements and refills like Copics.
  • Please try this with watercolor pencils and gouache too! Thank you for the video ✨️
  • Your BF is the MVP because taping up a bunch of pencils sounds very tedious, even though definitely necessary to try and be fair!

The Copic test was interesting. Weird how they came out as totally different colours!

Test Artist Loft acrylics against Golden. I would also love to see you test watercolours. I love Winsor & Newton, but really didn't like Artist Loft (though they are not close to the worst) when I tried them.

I always love when Kasey Golden compares art supplies and this video gave me the same vibe, but with your spin on it. I love watching comparison videos even when it’s supplies that I don’t even use in my art.
  • This was a really awesome video. There is so many influencers pushing expensive products that some people cannot afford. It’s refreshing that your videos are always so honest, helpful and down to earth. This reminded me of a superraedizzle video and I really enjoyed watching this.
  • This is what I like the most about her channel, her videos are unique but with a very important topic to be taken in talk for artist's. It's just so good to see such videos actually covering artists questions deserving to be covered. Thankyou Chloe. ✨❤️
  • For me, the biggest giveaway with the markers was how different the ink colour was to the cap. I have a cheap set & there's quite a few like that 💙

Fun video! Thanks for sharing 🥰 I use 5-6 different brands of acrylic paint, and I found the blue Liquitex to be instantly recognizable solely based on the consistency! Although I sometimes wish it would be a bit more "flowy". In my opinion the colored pencils that come closest to Prismacolors are the Arrtx, with Kalour and Brutfuner sharing 3rd place. No one can touch the Prisma's vibrancy though ❤ Posca's used to be my favourite acrylic markers, they are unrivaled when it comes to paint flow, you have to shake and push other brands repeatedly in a drawing session, whereas Posca has a great paint flow. Other brands have a less scratchy nib though, which is an advantage when using paper. The only other brand I've come across that is on par with Posca's paint flow is the 30 set by Ohuhu.
  • Nice comparison! I am curious how lightfast the artists loft is!? I use poscas for painting on alot of stuff and it seems to do pretty well with a clearcoat to seal the paint !

I’d like to see you use the 2 brands you preferred over the name brand, using a whole set for an artwork and comparing results.
