A Toyota Master Diagnostic technician Reviews Toyota's updated 2GR-FKS 3.5L engine, Talk about some common problems and improvements.

So Should you buy Toyota's new V6 engine? In this video I'll take you on a Tour of the updated 2GR-FKS engine, We'll cover some common problems then I'll give you my opinion on what's better and what's worse.

First we'll cover the mechanical changes including the plastic valve covers, the changes in the cylinder head and Variable valve timing.

Then we'll cover the lubrication system and the cooling system which included more plastic parts than before.

We'll take a look at the D4S Direct injection system and how it takes care of the carbon build up issues.

Lastly I'll share with you some of the common problems that i've seen working on this engine from oil leaks, coolant leaks and the trending thermostat issues.

I like the 2gr-fks in my Tacoma. I'm a huge fan of the dual fuel injection, no more carbon build up for intake valves. Genius.

Love the fantastic information you provide on this engine and the 4cyl on the Rav4. Have had two cars with the 2GR-FE and they were/are great workhorses. Great info for DIYers like me!!

Simply my favorite channel on YouTube, thanks for what you do AMD!
  • Videos are great haven’t been able to stop watching them, very well put together. Taking your advice and getting my break in oil change on my 2022 Highlander tomorrow morning at my local Toyota dealership where I purchased the vehicle. I put in the notes “ I realize my vehicle is new and only has 1000 miles but it is my preference to perform an break in oil change” hopefully I won’t need to explain more once I arrive 🤷🏽‍♂️
  • @jtomtl
I still love my old and reliable 2GR-FE, old, port injection and I only have 77000km on it… still runs like new
