How To Play Quickly / How To Play At High-Speed

In a Stealth game, Combat slows a player down more than anything else where raw numbers are concerned. A player who can stay in Stealth while also moving quickly will burn less time, always, than a player who gets detected. The Smoke Bomb and Berserk Blade, being able to "band-aid" so many Detection Scenarios, make moving quickly through AC Unity's Helix Simulation of Historical Paris very easy.

Short follow-up to my previous vid on Advanced Unity Techniques.

To this day I'm still surprised how smooth and fluid Unity actually is. Perhaps at the time it was something that wasn't as visible due to the game's numeral technical and performance issues. But if you've got the hardware to brute force it and the game doesn't break on you, it just flows so much better compared to the movement and animations we see in Origins/Odyssey.

One thing I think that's worth mentioning in the smoke bomb combat mistake section is the avoidance of executions--Arno will switch his target instantly when you press the attack button while holding your stick in another enemy's direction. Since combat executions waste a lot of smoke time, it's usually recommended to switch targets immediately after bringing an enemy to their critical state. Better yet, you could also hit multiple enemies by switching targets after every hit, then disengaging enemies with a poison bomb to finish them all off at once. In the case where you do not have smoke bombs for whatever reason, the target switching technique will also limit the number of times you have to parry and dodge, as your fast attacks will often disrupt and damage enemies prepping their next attack. I strongly recommend doing this often since the enemies you fight head-on tend to block very often. While I do agree that combat should be avoided to a minimum, I do think that there are still a few techniques that could be explored to switch up the dynamic to make ACU's gameplay more dynamic.

Do people really not like the combat? It's certainly not the best and has it's flaws, but I wouldn't say I hate it either.

Unity is the easiest and the most fluid experience in AC. I enjoyed unity more than any other game in AC franchise.
  • Dude you gained a follower I'm reinstalling unity to enjoy the depth I didn't see at first

0:21 Don't mind me, just leaving this timestamp for myself for no particular reason👀

I'm so glad someone is still talking about Unity. I have so many hours in Unity between the PS4 and PC version. It's such an underrated game and was so far ahead of its time, especially with the graphics and the freeform parkour. I would (and sometimes still do) literally spend hours just flowing parkour through Paris. I love Unity, I don't think it's the best AC to date but it's pretty darn close. It also feels like the last "true" AC game. Odyssey and Origins are really cool, but they are such a complete genre switch it's hard to identify with the series. Anyway, I always have sucked at the stealth in this game, despite having over 250 hours in this game. You have actually managed to show me things I never knew about this game in regards to the stealth mechanics, and for that I applaud you sir. You have helped me actually enjoy the stealth of this game, and I now find myself going back and playing missions just to practice and try this stuff out. I think Unity may be the best AC game in regards to actually making you feel like an assassin. Bravo. Your content is golden.

actually i think unity has fun combat BUT it is absolutely frustrating encountering more than 7 enemues at the same time because 3 of them will block every attack while 4 of them are shooting at you all the time
  • @leman8626
Not gonna lie, I played through this game with the over conservative and scared playstyle, forgetting that I had somke bombs and phantom blades, just staying behind cover for 5 minutes worrying not to get caught and even then I still got detected and ending up failing the mission, but I must thank you for opening up my mind for what could be done in this game with your videos.
  • Best movement mechanics in the AC Series so far, with little bit of polishing, I would love to see Altair move like Arno. Hopefully Ubi makes a Remake (not a remaster) of AC1. Btw I subbed and I think you deserve more ;) Great vid overall!
  • @StrangerE0ns
God I just need another, more fluid and consistent multiplayer ac game, cause it was just so much fun messing around in this game with friends
  • @umbralwolf
Revisiting a large batch of your Unity videos as an inspiration and guidance for something I'm planning long-term. Honestly, it's such a pleasure to watch your videos. I must say, as myself, I prefer the more "stylish" and long-winded animations over the shorter, grounded ones when I play - especially when going fast. I think I'm just a complete sucker for the visuals.
  • @NireFuster
AC Rogue isn't as fluid as Unity but I'm currently playing it and these tips actually apply oddly well to 4 and Rogue, so thanks a ton man!! I just discovered your channel and I'm loving this keep it up!
  • @Nina9Robes
I got soo tickled when the combat was shown..Like... what kind of assassin fights like that?! I couldn't stop laughing at how slow he was swinging that sword..
  • i love your idea of gameplay and approaching the game in general. Because i always looked for these same aspects in other players styles but they are always missing. I think you caught the right way to do it, the best and the most entertaining, finally. And in my opinion this doesn't only fit this game but all the others of the same genre. Thanks to your suggestions i can perfect my style too.
  • @toastiboi7618
0:32 yes there are 2 regulars and a brute. I think I can take them. 5 seconds later: 8 dudes run out the door and you get shot in the side or something.
